Job summary

SMPC Industries in Tamil Nadu seeks a skilled Crane Operator to safely operate overhead/EOT cranes for handling steel coils and heavy materials within the plant.

You will load, unload, and position coils, follow lifting procedures, use slings and hooks, and coordinate with Production, Dispatch, and Stores to ensure timely material movement.

The role requires 3 years of crane operation experience, ITI or equivalent, and a strong safety mindset with the ability to work rotating shifts.

Qualifications

• Experience in steel, coil processing, or heavy engineering preferred.
• Certification/license for crane operation, where applicable.
• Strong safety mindset and ability to work in rotational shifts.

Responsibilities

• Operate EOT/overhead cranes safely for handling and movement of steel coils and finished materials.
• Load, unload, shift, and position coils accurately per production and dispatch requirements.
• Ensure proper use of slings, hooks, lifting tools, and other crane accessories.
• Check crane and lifting accessories before starting operations and report abnormalities.
• Follow approved lifting procedures and ensure safe movement of materials.
• Coordinate with Production, Packing, Stores, and Dispatch teams for timely material movement.
• Ensure proper placement and stacking of coils in designated areas.
• Prevent damage to coils, machines, pallets, and other equipment during handling.
• Follow all safety rules, PPE, and company SOPs.
• Maintain cleanliness and good housekeeping around crane operating areas.
• Report crane defects, unsafe conditions, and incidents immediately to the supervisor.
• Support smooth production and dispatch operations through timely material handling.

The candidate will be responsible for safe material movement, proper loading and unloading, and supporting production, packing, and dispatch operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate EOT/overhead cranes safely for handling and movement of steel coils and finished materials.
• Load, unload, shift, and position coils accurately as per production and dispatch requirements.
• Ensure proper use of slings, hooks, lifting tools, and other crane accessories.
• Check the crane and lifting accessories before starting operations and report any abnormalities.
• Follow approved lifting procedures and ensure safe movement of materials.
• Coordinate with Production, Packing, Stores, and Dispatch teams for timely material movement.
• Ensure proper placement and stacking of coils in designated areas.
• Prevent damage to coils, machines, pallets, and other plant equipment during handling.
• Follow all safety rules, PPE requirements, and company SOPs.

Requirements

• Education: 10th / 12th / ITI or equivalent.
• Experience: Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in EOT/overhead crane operation.
• Experience in steel, coil processing, sheet metal, manufacturing, or heavy engineering industries will be preferred.
• Practical experience in handling steel coils and heavy materials is an advantage.
• Valid crane operator certification/license, where applicable.
• Good understanding of safe lifting practices and crane signals.
• Responsible attitude with strong focus on safety.
• Must be willing to work in rotational shifts.
