Shinsung Petrochemical in Gummidipoondi seeks an EHS Officer to ensure a safe and healthy workplace by implementing HSE policies, conducting inspections, risk assessments and promoting a strong safety culture across the plant.

The role requires 2–5 years of experience in EHS, knowledge of statutory requirements, and strong training and communication skills. You will coordinate audits, handle PTW, and support emergency preparedness.

Qualifications

• Diploma/BE/BTech in Safety or related field.
• 2–5 years of EHS experience.
• Knowledge of HSE practices and statutory requirements.
• Ability to conduct risk assessments and incident investigations.
• Excellent communication and training skills.

Responsabilités

• Implement and monitor Health, Safety & Environment policies and procedures.
• Conduct plant safety inspections, workplace audits and safety rounds.
• Identify hazards and perform Risk Assessments / JSA / HIRA.
• Ensure compliance with Factories Act and environmental regulations.
• Investigate accidents and near-misses; prepare corrective actions.
• Conduct toolbox talks and training for employees and contractors.
• Ensure proper use of PPE and monitor PPE compliance.
• Monitor fire safety systems, emergencies, drills and evacuation.
• Maintain HSE records and statutory documents.
• Coordinate closure of safety audit observations with departments.
• Monitor safe practices for high-risk activities and PTW systems.
• Support emergency response activities and equipment readiness.
• Coordinate with external agencies and auditors.

Role & responsibilities

Position: EHS Officer (Health, Safety & Environment)
Department: HSE / EHS
Location: Gummidipoondi
Experience: 2 to 5 Years
Qualification: Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech in Safety, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or relevant field
Reporting To: HSE Manager / Plant Head

Job Purpose

To ensure a safe and healthy working environment by implementing HSE policies, conducting inspections and risk assessments, ensuring statutory compliance, and promoting a strong safety culture across the plant.

Key Responsibilities

• Implement and monitor company Health, Safety & Environment policies and procedures.
• Conduct regular plant safety inspections, workplace audits, and safety rounds.
• Identify hazards and conduct Risk Assessments / JSA / HIRA for various activities.
• Monitor compliance with applicable Factories Act, safety regulations, environmental requirements, and other statutory provisions.
• Investigate accidents, near misses, unsafe acts, and unsafe conditions and prepare corrective/preventive action reports.
• Conduct toolbox talks, safety training, induction training, and awareness programs for employees and contractors.
• Ensure proper use of PPE and monitor PPE compliance across the plant.
• Monitor fire safety systems, emergency preparedness, evacuation procedures, and conduct mock drills.
• Maintain HSE records, inspection reports, training records, incident reports, and statutory documents.
• Coordinate with various departments for closure of safety audit observations and corrective actions.
• Monitor safe working practices for work at height, hot work, confined space, electrical work, lifting activities, and maintenance activities.
• Implement and monitor Permit-to-Work (PTW) systems.
• Support emergency response activities and ensure availability of emergency equipment.
• Monitor environmental aspects such as waste management, chemical handling, pollution control, and housekeeping.
• Coordinate with external agencies, auditors, consultants, and government authorities whenever required.
• Prepare and submit daily/weekly/monthly HSE reports and MIS to management.
• Promote a proactive safety culture and zero-accident mindset throughout the organization.

Required Skills

• Good knowledge of Industrial Safety and HSE practices.
• Knowledge of HIRA, JSA, Risk Assessment and Incident Investigation.
• Knowledge of Fire & Safety, Emergency Response and Disaster Management.
• Knowledge of PPE and Permit-to-Work systems.
• Good understanding of applicable statutory and regulatory requirements.
• Good communication and training skills.
• Ability to conduct safety audits and prepare documentation.
• Good MS Office skills, particularly Excel and Word.
• Strong observation, problem-solving, and coordination skills.
