Job summary

Larsen & Toubro in Chennai is seeking a Design Engineer – MEP (HVAC) to support HVAC design and documentation for data centres and IT facilities. You will work under the HVAC Lead Engineer, prepare heat load calculations, piping layouts and BOQs, and coordinate with BIM and architecture teams to ensure clash-free drawings.

The role requires 3–6 years of HVAC design experience, proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit, and strong communication in English for on-site coordination.

Qualifications

• B.E./B.Tech. in Mechanical with 3–6 years of HVAC design experience.
• Proficient English and local language for on-site coordination.
• Experience with IT parks, data centres, or tall buildings is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design HVAC systems for data centres in line with domain standards.
• Prepare heat load calculations and chilled water schemes.
• Compute pump head and external static pressure.
• Create design drawings and BOQs per project standards.
• Coordinate with BIM and architecture teams to resolve clashes.

SECTION II: ROLE SUMMARY (Purpose of the Role)

To support HVAC design and documentation activities ensuring system performance and coordination across services.

SECTION III: KEY RESPONSIBILITIES/ ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Data Centre specific HVAC System design in compliance with UPTIME/ TIA / ASHRAE TC 9.9 requirements.
• Prepares heat load calculations, Chilled Water schemes and duct layout preparation.
• Pump head calculation and External Static Pressure calculation.
• Prepare design drawings and BOQs as per project standards.
• Work with BIM and architectural teams to resolve layout clashes.

• Perform as HVAC Systems Designer, Expertise with the Design of IT Parks, Tall Buildings, DataCentre, Hospitals & Commercial Buildings design” based on Globally / Nationally accepted Codes and Standards.
• Should have worked on Heat Load calculation through HAP Software & Strong knowledge on Manual Heat load calculation & fundamentals of Psychometrics.
• Should have in depth knowledge of Chilled water system (Air cooled and Water-cooled system), VRF System, DX System, Precision AHU system, Thermal Energy storage system, Basement Ventilation System etc.,
• Determines the size of water and chilled water piping, preparation of piping layout and perform pump head calculations for the chilled water piping.
• Establish Systems for Bill of Materials / Quantity Take Off for Tender projects.
• Perform all MEP design activities and coordinate with Architect, Structure, ELV systems, Public Heath, Piping, Fire Fighting and HVAC Engineering to ensure quality compliance in accordance with client & owner expectations in most economical manner.
• Responsible for review and check the vendor drawings & technical datasheet for various equipment’s like Chiller, Pumps, Cooling Towers etc., and further low side items like Piping, ducting, Air distribution products etc., and Subcontractor shop drawings.
