This backend-focused leadership role requires strong Python-based backend expertise, distributed systems, microservices, and modern web/mobile technologies. You will partner with Product and Business leadership to deliver a robust, scalable platform with reliability and long-term maintainability.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical direction and architecture for scalable microservices and data-intensive platforms.

We are looking for an Engineering Manager Full-Stack (backend heavy) to lead the engineering strategy, architecture, and execution of scalable products and platforms. This is a backend-heavy technology leadership role requiring strong expertise in Python-based backend systems, distributed systems, microservices, and modern web/mobile technologies.

You will partner with Product and Business leadership to translate strategy into an executable engineering roadmap while ensuring the platform is designed for scale, performance, reliability, and long-term maintainability.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead technical direction and architecture for scalable microservices, distributed systems, APIs, and data-intensive platforms.
• Strong backend expertise in Python, Django, FastAPI, Flask, with hands-on understanding of scalable service architectures.
• Drive effective use of SQL/NoSQL databases, Redis, Kafka, Celery, caching, asynchronous processing, and event-driven architectures.
• Provide technical leadership across js, Next.js, and React Native, with sufficient frontend depth to guide architecture and technical decisions.
• Drive architecture reviews, design reviews, technical standards, and pragmatic resolution of technical debt.
• Ensure systems are designed for scalability, performance, security, resilience, and operational readiness.
• Partner with DevOps/SRE to build cloud-native platforms across AWS/GCP and Kubernetes.

Engineering Roadmap & Execution

• Translate business and product strategy into a clear, prioritized engineering roadmap.
• Balance product delivery with platform investments, technical debt, reliability, security, and developer productivity.
• Own engineering planning, capacity, dependencies, technical risks, and delivery commitments.
• Establish mechanisms for predictable delivery without unnecessary process or bureaucracy.
• Make pragmatic build/buy/partner and technology decisions aligned with business outcomes.
• Communicate engineering priorities, trade-offs, risks, and progress effectively to senior leadership.

Team Management and Leadership

• Build and lead high-performing, accountable engineering teams with a strong culture of ownership and continuous improvement.
• Hire, mentor, retain, and develop strong engineering talent across different levels.
• Coach senior engineers and emerging technical leaders to take broader ownership.
• Establish clear expectations around performance, quality, accountability, and career growth.
• Foster a high-trust environment while maintaining a strong bar for engineering and execution.
• Create effective team structures, ownership boundaries, and operating mechanisms as the organization scales.

Cross Functional Partnership

• Partner closely with Product, Design, Data, DevOps/SRE, QA, Security, and Business teams.
• Bring engineering perspectives into product strategy, prioritization, and roadmap decisions.
• Translate complex technical concepts and trade-offs into clear business implications.
• Resolve cross-functional dependencies and ensure alignment across teams.
• Balance business urgency with engineering quality, reliability, and sustainable delivery.
• Build strong stakeholder relationships through transparency, predictability, and clear communication.

Reliability and Operational Excellence

• Define and manage SLIs, SLOs, SLAs, and error budgets for critical services and customer journeys.
• Drive improvements in availability, latency, scalability, observability, and production readiness.
• Establish strong incident management, root-cause analysis, and postmortem practices.
• Proactively identify reliability and scalability risks before they impact customers.
• Partner with DevOps/SRE to strengthen monitoring, alerting, CI/CD, disaster recovery, and operational resilience.
• Continuously improve production health while balancing reliability with product velocity.

Engineering Excellence

• Establish and continuously raise standards across architecture, code quality, testing, CI/CD, security, observability, and release management.
• Drive adoption of engineering best practices, automation, and quality gates.
• Establish meaningful engineering metrics covering delivery predictability, quality, reliability, productivity, and operational health.
• Reduce technical debt and recurring production issues through systematic engineering improvements.
• Promote a culture of automation, simplicity, documentation, learning, and continuous improvement.
• Ensure engineering teams can move fast while maintaining a high bar for quality, reliability, and maintainability.
