Job summary

Indian AI Research Organization (IAAIRO) seeks an Engineering Intern in India to join a team spanning backend, frontend and AI components. The role emphasizes end-to-end project work and hands-on building of AI-enabled products.

You will work with Python, data pipelines, APIs and model integration, gaining exposure to language models, inference, prompts and deployment. Strong fundamentals and learning across the stack are essential.

Qualifications

• Pursuing or recently completed degree in CS, engineering, data science, or related fields.

Job description

We are looking for an Engineering Intern with strong fundamentals in software engineering and a good understanding of modern AI systems.. The role is suited for someone who enjoys building things end-to-end, understands how AI models work at a practical level, and is comfortable working across backend, frontend and AI components.

Experience/Education background in these areas is preferred:

• Extreme Weather/ Satellite Data/ Remote Sensing
• Pharmacology

What You’ll Work On

You will work with the engineering team on building and improving AI-enabled products and internal systems. Depending on the project, this may involve:

• Building backend services, APIs and data pipelines
• Developing and improving web applications and user interfaces
• Integrating language models and other AI models into applications
• Working with model inference, prompts, structured outputs and model APIs
• Processing and transforming data for AI and software applications
• Prototyping new product features and technical ideas
• Testing, debugging and improving system performance
• Working across the full development lifecycle, from prototype to deployment

What We’re Looking For

Strong engineering fundamentals are more important than familiarity with any particular framework.

You should have:

• Strong proficiency in Python
• Good understanding of basic data structures, algorithms and software engineering concepts
• Experience building software or applications beyond coursework
• Experience with full-stack development
• Familiarity with APIs, databases, Git and modern development workflows
• Basic understanding of machine learning and AI
• Understanding of how machine learning models broadly work, including training, inference, inputs, outputs and evaluation
• Understanding of language models, including concepts such as tokens, context windows, embeddings, prompting and inference
• Ability to read documentation, understand unfamiliar systems and learn new technologies quickly
• Strong debugging and problem-solving skills’
• PyTorch or similar ML frameworks Hugging

Good to Have

Experience with any of the following is useful, but not required:

• Hugging Face and open-source language models
• RAG, vector databases or embeddings
• Model fine-tuning or evaluation
• React, Next.js or similar frontend frameworks
• FastAPI, Flask, Django, Node.js or similar backend frameworks
• Docker and cloud deployment
• Building or deploying AI-powered applications
