The Engineer - Planning & Scheduling is responsible for developing, maintaining, and monitoring project plans and schedules to support the timely and efficient execution of engineering, construction, maintenance, and related operational activities. Planning and Scheduling
- Develop detailed project plans, work breakdown structures, activity lists, and integrated schedules in coordination with engineering, procurement, construction, operations, and other relevant teams.
- Establish activity sequences, logical relationships, durations, milestones, dependencies, and resource requirements.
- Prepare baseline schedules and ensure alignment with approved project scope, deliverables, contractual requirements, and execution strategies.
- Maintain and regularly update project schedules based on actual progress, approved changes, constraints, and revised execution plans.
- Support short-term, medium-term, and long-term planning activities, including look-ahead schedules and recovery plans.
- Coordinate planning inputs from discipline engineers, contractors, suppliers, and other project stakeholders.
Progress Monitoring and Control
- Monitor planned versus actual progress and identify deviations, delays, critical activities, and emerging schedule risks.
- Collect, validate, and consolidate progress data from project teams and site personnel.
- Prepare progress measurement systems, dashboards, weekly updates, monthly reports, and schedule performance analyses.
- Track key milestones, engineering deliverables, procurement activities, material availability, construction progress, testing, commissioning, and handover activities, as applicable.
- Analyze schedule performance using appropriate planning and control techniques, including critical path analysis, trend analysis, milestone tracking, and variance analysis.
- Recommend corrective and preventive actions to mitigate delays and improve schedule performance.
Coordination and Stakeholder Management
- Work closely with project managers, engineering teams, site teams, procurement, contracts, cost control, quality, safety, and external contractors to ensure coordinated execution.
- Facilitate planning meetings, progress reviews, schedule workshops, and coordination sessions.
- Communicate schedule status, constraints, risks, opportunities, and required actions to relevant stakeholders.
- Support coordination of interfaces between project disciplines, work packages, vendors, contractors, and operational teams.
- Follow up on action items and ensure timely resolution of schedule-related issues.
Schedule Risk and Change Management
- Identify potential schedule risks, constraints, resource limitations, and interface issues that may affect project delivery.
- Support the preparation of schedule risk assessments, mitigation strategies, recovery schedules, and acceleration plans.
- Evaluate the schedule impact of design changes, scope changes, variation orders, delays, and other project events.
- Maintain records of approved changes, schedule revisions, assumptions, constraints, and delay events.
- Provide planning and scheduling inputs for claims, extensions of time, change management, and contractual reporting when required.
Reporting and Documentation
- Prepare clear and accurate schedule reports for project leadership and stakeholders.
- Maintain planning databases, schedule files, progress records, performance reports, and supporting documentation.
- Ensure schedules and reports are prepared in accordance with company procedures, project requirements, and applicable standards.
- Support the development of productivity analyses, resource histograms, manpower plans, S-curves, progress curves, and other project control deliverables.
- Contribute to lessons learned and continuous improvement initiatives related to planning, scheduling, and project execution.
Key Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or a related technical discipline.
- Experience in project planning, scheduling, project controls, engineering, construction, maintenance, or a related environment.
- Working knowledge of planning and scheduling principles, project life cycles, work breakdown structures, critical path methodology, and progress measurement.
- Proficiency in scheduling and reporting tools such as Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, Microsoft Excel, or equivalent planning software.
- Ability to develop and maintain integrated project schedules and analyze schedule performance.
- Strong understanding of activity sequencing, resource planning, schedule baselines, milestones, dependencies, and schedule forecasting.
- Knowledge of project controls, risk management, change management, and performance monitoring practices.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and time-management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively under schedule pressure.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in project reporting and documentation.
