Job summary

About the Team

The 3‑Phase ETO business within the Data Center Systems (DCS) organization is experiencing rapid and sustained growth, supported by a state‑of‑the‑art high‑power 3‑phase R&D lab in Bangalore. We are expanding our engineering capabilities and seeking a Senior Electrical Design Engineer who will lead technical design efforts for 3‑phase UPS auxiliaries, power distribution products, and switchgear solutions.


Position Summary

The System Engineer is responsible for design, application engineering, integration, testing, commissioning, operation, and lifecycle support of mission‑critical power infrastructure including UPS systems, batteries, PDUs, RPPs, switchgear, STS, generators, monitoring systems, and related auxiliary and ancillary systems supporting data center operations.


You will provide deep technical expertise, drive improvements, conduct reviews, and support field issues while collaborating with cross‑functional teams.


Key Responsibilities

  • Design and engineer critical power architectures for Tier III and Tier IV data centers.

  • Perform load calculations, redundancy analysis (N, N+1, 2N), capacity planning, and power quality assessments.

  • Support FAT, SAT, IST, commissioning, troubleshooting, and lifecycle maintenance activities.

  • Integrate UPS, PDU, RPP, EPMS, BMS, DCIM, and SCADA systems.


UPS Systems

  • UPS sizing and configuration.

  • Parallel redundant and modular UPS architectures.

  • Battery autonomy calculations and runtime validation.

  • Load bank testing, bypass testing, and black building tests.


Battery Systems

  • VRLA, Lithium‑ion, and advanced battery technologies.

  • Battery monitoring, impedance testing, and health assessment.

  • Battery Management System integration and thermal monitoring.


Power Distribution (PDU, RPP & rPDU)

  • Design and support Floor Mounted PDUs, Intelligent PDUs, Transformer‑based PDUs, and Remote Power Panels (RPP).

  • Manage branch circuit distribution, rack power allocation, breaker coordination, and load balancing.

  • Monitor voltage, current, energy, harmonics, and utilization at circuit and rack levels.

  • Support rack PDU deployment and capacity management.


Auxiliary Systems

  • Static Transfer Switches (STS).

  • Maintenance Bypass Panels and UPS Isolation Systems.

  • Generator Interfaces and ATS systems.

  • UPS and Battery Room Cooling Systems.


Ancillary Systems

  • EPMS, DCIM, SCADA and BMS integration.

  • Alarm management, trend analysis, and energy reporting.

  • Network communications using Modbus, BACnet, SNMP, and OPC.


Customer & Stakeholder Engagement


  • Work with application engineering and customers as a technical advisor during solution definition.

  • Understand customer requirements and define adaptation specifications.

  • Provide commercially viable and technically robust solutions for customer projects.


Documentation & Delivery


  • Prepare engineering deliverables, manufacturing documentation, GA, SLD, and submittal drawings (AutoCAD).

  • Provide technical guidance to testing teams; define expected results, required tests, and review final test data.


Cross‑Functional Collaboration


  • Engage with internal teams across engineering, manufacturing, testing, and project functions to ensure successful design execution.


Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical or Electronics Engineering (or power systems engineering or related field).

  • Minimum 8-10 years of experience in critical power systems or data center infrastructure.

  • Strong experience with data center design and innovations in the AI related loads

  • Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, communication, and collaboration skills.

  • Ability to manage stakeholders and lead technical initiatives.

  • Experience with Data Center equipments like PDU, Remote Power Panels (RPP), PMM, and UPS auxiliaries.

  • Strong understanding of electrical codes, safety standards, symbols, and earthing systems.


Preferred Skills

  • ETAP, SKM, AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, MS Visio.

  • Knowledge of TIA-942, Uptime Institute, IEC, IEEE, NEC and NFPA standards.

  • Strong troubleshooting, RCA, customer engagement, and project coordination skills.
