• The Product Development/subsystems engineer is responsible for designing new parts, subsystems and their integration into products.
• This includes concept development, design, improvement, problem solving, design verification and coordination with various stakeholders for subsequent implementation.
• Should have the ability to carry out design calculations involving parts, subsystems & their integration into products
• Creating 3D models and detailing of concepts & development involving GD&T requirements
• Make a design review following design guidelines, checklists, standards and prepare such a document wherever required
• Follow design processes to meet DFMEA, DFM, DFA & DFS requirements & change management

Key Purpose of the Job :

The Product DevelopmentEngineer is responsible for designing new parts, subsystems and products.This includes research and development, design, improvement, problem solving,testing activities. Coordinating for concept development, feasibilitystudies, design validation and proto manufacturing activities is critical tothe role holder.

Educational Qualification /Experience required :

- Graduate in Engineering
- Experience of 2 to 4 years in design of industrial part / component /system
- Expertise in basic design calculations, Product development, 3D Modelling and detailing with exposure to strength of materials, fluid mechanics, thermal engineering, design of transmissionelements (bearing, belt & gear), design of fluid joints (pipes, hoses, gasgets & couplings), design of structure& structuraljoints (sheet metal & fabricated parts)

Key Responsibilities :

1. Prepare plan and schedulefor product design and development activities including projects at variousstages and across variants

2. Responsible for designing and developing components subsystems andcompressor packages as per project plan and Elgi Product Development Process(EPDP)

3. Coordinate for design validation with the respective expert functionsacross Elgi

4. Provide technical inputs and support on design and development conceptsfor procurement and other development processes

5. Execute redesign and engineering activities, special projects as perbusiness requirements

Task Analysis:

Indicative Tasks

1. Prepare plan andschedule for product design and development activities including projects atvarious stages and across variants

Collect inputs onproject proposal and plan from Business Development (BD) (for example, inputsfrom Voice of Customers (VOC), new project proposals)

Study and analyze projectproposal for design and development feasibility

Work along with project leads todevelop detailed product development application objectives

Prepare conceptdocument / drawing / 3 D model as appropriate based on project proposals

Collaborate with BD forvalidating project concept, make changes as appropriate to document / drawingbased on inputs from BD

2. Responsible fordesigning and developing components subsystems and compressor packages as perproject plan and Elgi Product Development Process (EPDP)

Collate anddocument project proposal, plan and concept drawings / documents forapprovals at various stages and from stakeholders

Ensure adherence to Elgiproduct development principles, systems and guidelines including Elgi ProductDevelopment Process (EPDP)

Create and maintainpart designs and drawings using design tools including SolidWorks, AutoCad,Pro E, and others

Apply knowledge ofbest design practices, industry standards and governing body regulationsduring design process

Employ Designfor Manufacturing / Design for Assembly / Design for Service (DFM / DFA /DFS) concepts during design process

Ensure productdevelopment quality by adhering to First Time Right (FTR) principle and errorfree designs while developing designs

Review and analyze design toensure feasibility of product concept, make changes as appropriate

Prepare reports on status ofproject tasks and milestones for each project handled

Conduct design review meetingswith superior to ensure product development meets design control requirements

Prepare detailed productspecifications / design requirements and process flow maps

Conduct manufacturingfeasibility study as per formats, update drawings as appropriate

3. Coordinate fordesign validation with the respective expert functions across Elgi

Forward design andspecifications to Subsystems & Experts team for simulation testing (forexample, Computational Fluid Dynamics, Finite Element Analysis, etc)

Incorporate changes recommendedby expert functions (for example, E&E, SS&E) into the design, asappropriate

Coordinate fortesting and validation of products and its applications, make improvements /changes to design based on results

Finalize the designin collaboration with functional stakeholders

Handover final drawings, designand specifications to New Product Productionisation Organization (NPPO) teamfor proto manufacturing of product

Provide for adjustments /changes to drawings as appropriate based on feedback from NPPO assembling /manufacturing / machining processes

Assist in assembly of prototypeproducts and validate the product concept

4. Providetechnical inputs and support on design and development concepts forprocurement and other development processes

Prepare engineeringdocumentation, Bills of Material (BOMs), parts lists, engineeringspecifications, and other supporting documents and forms

Coordinate with respectivefunction for requirements in the system for parts, materials required for productionof new product

Provide inputs /clarifications on design to suppliers for raw materials, machine parts,components

Ensure requirementsare correctly communicated to supplier, follow up for any further issues /manufacturing difficulties / deviation requests in parts / components

Calculate materialscosts, modify design, requirements for cost optimization

Conduct meetings, preparetechnical and status reports as required for internal distribution andexternal communication

Scale up production process viaplant trials, make changes to raw materials or components and processparameters to ensure quality is maintained

Implement process controls andtest methods to assess the production process

Deliver productsthat meets Elgi’s standards and also international standards and regulations,as appropriate

5. Execute redesignand engineering activities, special projects as per business requirements

Provide for changes / revisionsin design and other Engineering Change Requests (ECR), as necessary (forexample, correction of design error that isn't evident until testing andmodeling, change in material or manufacturing method)

Conduct specialprocesses as per project definition and scope and also business requirements(for example, developing new pattern for foundry projects and others)

Benchmark againstcompetitor products and evaluate design competitiveness (for example,materials evaluation, component weight, cost benchmarking)

Conduct improvement studies onnew machines (for example, noise reduction, package size reduction)

Conduct analysisand studies for cost reduction activities (for example, investigate alternativematerials or new machinery to improve efficiency, quality)

Evaluate existing processes toidentify areas for improvement
