Job summary

TekPillar® in Bengaluru, India seeks an Embedded Firmware Engineer for automotive ECUs. You will design, implement, and test firmware across RTOS and Linux kernel domains, focusing on diagnostics, fault handling, and safe-state behavior.

Requires 3+ years in embedded firmware, strong C/C++, and hands-on CAN/UART/SPI/I2C experience. Automotive processor exposure and hardware debugging skills are highly valued. Python scripting is a plus.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years in Embedded Firmware Development.
  • Strong C/C++ skills and experience with Embedded Linux Kernel.
  • Hands-on RTOS exposure (FreeRTOS or similar).
  • Sound knowledge of CAN, UART, SPI, I2C interfaces.
  • Familiar with TCP/UDP and UDS diagnostics.
  • Experience with 32-bit ARM Cortex-M MCUs.
  • Exposure to automotive processors like NXP S32G/S32K is a plus.
  • Hardware debugging using oscilloscope, multimeter, and power supply.
  • Basic electronics understanding; Python for automation is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, integrate, and test embedded firmware for automotive ECUs.
  • Develop firmware in RTOS environments, managing timing and resources.
  • Work on Embedded Linux Kernel programming and low-level firmware tasks.
  • Develop diagnostic and self-test functionality (POST, BIST, DTCs).
  • Implement safe-state and fault-detection mechanisms for automotive systems.
  • Develop and debug CAN, UART, SPI, and I2C communications.
  • Work with CAN/Ethernet, including logging and diagnostics.
  • Support higher-level diagnostics (TCP/UDP and UDS).
  • Create firmware utilities and stress-test functions for validation.
  • Perform hardware bring-up, debugging, testing, and root-cause analysis.
  • Collaborate with hardware, software, and test teams on validation.
  • Apply automotive functional safety and security concepts during development.

Job description

Job Role: Embedded Firmware Engineer – Automotive
Experience: 3 - 8 Years
Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, integrate, and test embedded firmware for automotive ECUs.
  • Develop firmware in RTOS environments, managing timing, concurrency, and resource constraints.
  • Work on Embedded Linux Kernel programming and low-level firmware development.
  • Develop diagnostic and self-test functionality such as POST, BIST, DTCs, and fault handling.
  • Implement safe-state and fault-detection mechanisms for automotive systems.
  • Develop and debug communication interfaces including CAN, UART, SPI, and I2C.
  • Work with CAN/Ethernet communication, including error detection, logging, and diagnostics.
  • Support higher-level communication and diagnostics such as TCP/UDP and UDS.
  • Develop firmware utilities and stress-test functions for CPU, memory, and communication validation.
  • Perform hardware bring-up, debugging, testing, and root-cause analysis.
  • Collaborate with hardware, software, and test teams on unit, integration, and system-level validation.
  • Apply relevant automotive functional safety and security concepts during development.
Required Skills & Experience
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience in Embedded Firmware Development.
  • Strong programming skills in C/C++.
  • Hands-on experience with Embedded Linux Kernel programming.
  • Practical experience with FreeRTOS or other RTOS platforms.
  • Strong knowledge of CAN, UART, SPI, and I2C.
  • Understanding of TCP/UDP and UDS diagnostics.
  • Experience with 32-bit ARM Cortex-M microcontrollers.
  • Exposure to NXP S32G/S32K or similar automotive processors is preferred.
  • Strong hardware debugging skills using tools such as oscilloscope, multimeter, and power supply.
  • Basic understanding of electronics and low-level system debugging.
  • Knowledge of Python for automation, tooling, or testing is an advantage.
