Job summary

IIT Bombay in Mumbai is seeking an Electronics Hardware and PCB Designer for a government-funded drone project. You will design embedded and RF boards, simulate circuits, and ensure PCB integrity with thermal and EMI considerations.

Qualifications

• PhD or MSc/ME with relevant experience in electronic hardware.
• BTech/BE with relevant experience also accepted.
• Extensive experience in electronic circuit design and testing.
• MCU-based designs, sensor interfacing and bus protocols (SPI/I2C/UART/CAN).
• Power electronics for SMPS/DC-DC converters and filters.
• Multilayer PCB design with Altium/OrCAD/Cadence proficiency.
• High-speed design, impedance control and differential routing.
• RF design, signal routing and lab testing with spectrum analyzers.
• Experience with SI tools like HyperLynx a plus; EMI/EMC mitigation.
• Debug hardware with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers; good soldering for small pitch components.

Responsibilities

• Design highly integrated embedded and RF boards for drone flight controllers.
• Simulate analog/digital circuits including power regulators and IMUs.
• Ensure multilayer PCB designs meet signal integrity, thermal and EMI considerations.
• Collaborate with system architects and embedded engineers to define PCB requirements.
• Design for testability and compliance with aerospace-grade standards.
• Work with fabricators and assembly vendors for prototyping and manufacturing.
• Incorporate field test feedback into board revisions.
• Provide detailed technical documentation and test reports.

Qualification and Key Skills Required:

• PhD with relevant experience OR
• MTech / ME or equivalent degree with relevant experience OR
• BTech / BE or equivalent degree with relevant experience.
• Experience with electronic circuit designing and testing, microcontroller-based designs, sensor interfacing, communication buses SPI, I2C, UART, CAN etc.
• Experience of designing power electronic boards like SMPS, DC-DC converters, filter circuitry.
• Experience with designing multilayer PCBs with proficiency in industry-standard PCB designing tools like Altium, OrCAD, Cadence, etc.
• Strong understanding of high-speed design principles, impedance control, and differential pair routing.
• Experience in RF design, signal routing and hands-on testing using sophisticated lab equipment like spectrum analyzer.
• Knowledge of signal integrity simulation tools (e.g., HyperLynx) is a plus.
• Experience with EMI/EMC mitigation techniques and environmental robustness (vibration, temperature).
• Ability to debug hardware using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and other lab tools.
• Good soldering skills even with small pitch components.

Job Profile:
