Job summary

ABB in Chennai, India, is seeking a Project Engineer Electrical to act as design authority for low to medium complexity projects within Process Automation. You will perform basic and detailed engineering on small projects with cost-effective solutions and apply design for excellence concepts.

The role reports to the Operations Manager and requires 3–8 years of relevant experience, involvement in large projects, and strong technical leadership.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering is required.
• Minimum 3-8 years of relevant experience for Project Engineer.
• Experience in large size projects as Project Engineer is preferred.
• Proficiency in using design tools like earthing and lighting calculation tools.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines.
• Strong technical leadership and communication skills.
• Experience in Electrical Engineering, Marine and Ports, Process industry Projects preferred.
• Commissioning/Service experience of Electrical Equipment is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform Basic and detail Engineering activities and provide optimized solutions for the Electrical system in industrial projects.
• Prepare overall key SLD, Auxiliary AC/DC SLD & protection SLD.
• Design calculations including transformer sizing, Battery and UPS sizing, DG sizing, VFD sizing, earthing, cable sizing, lighting calculations, capacitor bank sizing, and CT/PT sizing.
• Knowledge of load flow, short circuit, arc flash, and harmonics analysis.
• Prepare data sheets & specifications for equipment like transformers, GCB, bus duct, MV/LV switchgear, batteries/UPS, DG sets, cables, earthing & lightning, and communication equipment.
• Prepare RFQ and BOM.
• Detail Engineering – layout, earthing, cable routing, bus duct layout, lighting/ lightning layouts, switchgear fixing, and cable drum schedule; develop schematics for panels.
• Develop Block Logic Diagram for MV and LV Switchgear.

Your role and responsibilities

In this role, you will have the opportunity to act as a design authority for an engineering discipline with low to medium complexity. Each day, you will complete assignments on small projects or portions of larger projects in a cost-effective manner. You will also showcase your expertise by applying basic design thinking/design for excellence concepts in projects.

The work model for the role is:

This role is contributing to the Process Automation business for Operation Centers and Quality division based in Chennai, India.

You will be mainly accountable for

• Perform Basic and detail Engineering activities and provide optimized solutions for the Electrical system in industrial projects.
• Prepare overall key SLD, Auxiliary AC/ DC SLD & protection SLD.
• Design calculations including transformer sizing (Power, Distribution and Converter), Battery and UPS sizing, DG sizing, VFD Sizing, earthing calculation, cable sizing, cable tray sizing, lighting calculation, lightning calculation, capacitor bank sizing calculations and CT/PT sizing.
• Knowledge of power system studies like load flow, short circuit, arc flash, harmonics analysis.
• Prepare data sheet & specifications for all equipment used in industries like transformers, GCB, Bus duct, MV switchgear (Both AIS and GIS), LV Switchgear, Battery/ UPS system, VFD, DG set, cable tray, earthing & lightning, Communication Equipment’s.
• Prepare Request for quotation (RFQ) and Bill of materials (BOM).
• Detail Engineering – Equipment layout & section, earthing layout design, cable routing / cable tray layout, cable schedule & termination schedule preparation, bus duct layout, lighting layout, lightning layout, switchgear fixing arrangement drawing and cable drum schedule Develop Schematics for Control and Protection Panels, Synchronizing Panels, MV and LV Switchgears based on project specific requirement.
• Develop of Block Logic Diagram for MV and LV Switchgear.

Qualifications For The Role (Mandatory)

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.
• Minimum 3-8 years of relevant experience for Project Engineer
• Should have worked in at least 2-4 large size projects as Project Engineer
• Pre-Bid Engineering, Bid & Proposal exposure is an added advantage.
• Proficiency in using design tools like earthing, lighting calculation tools etc.,
• Working in a fast-paced environment with short submission deadlines.
• Strong technical leadership skills, interpersonal skills, effective communication skills.
• Experience in Electrical Engineering, Marin and Ports, Process industry Projects Preferred
• Commissioning/Service experience of Electrical Equipment's is preferred.
