Job description

WHAT WILL YOU BE DOING?

As Electrical Engineer, you will be responsible for the day-to-day electrical, instrumentation and control maintenance activities of the plant, ensuring safe and reliable operation of electrical and automation systems. The job breaks into four areas: maintenance and reliability of electrical systems and instrumentation; power distribution and energy management; automation, controls and capital projects; and electrical safety, statutory compliance and documentation.

Day to day this means maintaining motors, drives, panels and field instruments, attending electrical breakdowns and establishing why they happened, keeping control systems running and correctly configured, and controlling spares and contractors. Over a longer horizon it means lifting equipment availability year on year, bringing down energy cost per tonne of output, upgrading protection and automation as the plant matures, and building the capability of the electricians and technicians working under you.

The systems under your care run from HT incoming supply and distribution through motors and drives to PLC-based process control and field instrumentation. You will work closely with Production, Maintenance, Stores and Purchase, and will report to the Plant Head.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
  • An engineer who reads the fault rather than simply resetting it.
  • Diagnostic thinking under production pressure, with the discipline to find and close root cause.
  • Organisation and self-motivation; you are able to act on your own initiative to solve problems.
  • High integrity, hands-on approach, and willingness to put in extra effort to deliver results.
  • Comfortable taking responsibility for plant electrical safety, statutory compliance and energy cost.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
  • B.E. / B.Tech or Diploma in Electrical or Electrical & Electronics Engineering.
  • 45 years of hands-on electrical maintenance experience in a continuous process manufacturing plant.
  • Experience in polymer recycling, chemicals or process manufacturing will be preferred.
  • Valid Electrical Supervisor Licence will be preferred. Candidates without the licence should be willing and eligible to obtain the required licence, subject to applicable statutory requirements
  • Practical working knowledge of LT and HT distribution systems, including transformers, HT/LT panels, breakers, MCCs, PCCs, busbars, cabling and earthing systems, with the ability to monitor, troubleshoot and coordinate maintenance activities.
  • Practical experience with induction motors, variable frequency drives, soft starters, protection relays and motor control circuits.
  • Ability to read single line diagrams, control schematics, panel GA drawings and instrument loop diagrams, and to fault-find using them.
  • Working knowledge of PLC and HMI based process control, including basic ladder logic understanding, I/O monitoring, fault diagnosis and approved parameter changes. Major program modifications to be carried out in coordination with the OEM/automation specialist
  • Practical exposure to process instrumentation such as temperature, level, flow, pressure, weighing and metal detection, including basic troubleshooting, calibration coordination and loop checking
  • Understanding of power factor, maximum demand, load balancing and basic electricity tariff structure, with the ability to monitor electrical energy consumption and identify opportunities for improvement
  • Hands-on experience with ERP‑based maintenance and procurement workflows and working Excel capability.
  • Willing to be based at the plant and to support three‑shift operations, including call‑outs for breakdowns.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Monitor electrical energy consumption by major equipment/section, calculate energy consumption per tonne where applicable, identify major consumers and recommend improvement measures.
  • Support the Plant Head and Production team in identifying opportunities for demand and tariff optimisation without affecting production requirements.
  • Assist in verifying electricity bills against meter readings, recorded demand and applicable tariff components, and highlight discrepancies to the Plant Head.
  • Monitor protection settings and earthing systems, maintain relevant records and coordinate periodic testing and relay/protection verification through authorised personnel or specialist agencies where required.
Instrumentation, Automation & Controls
  • Maintain and troubleshoot field instrumentation including temperature, level, flow, pressure, weighing and metal detection systems, and coordinate periodic calibration and maintain records.
  • Support PLC, HMI and drive systems on process lines; carry out approved parameter changes, maintain backups and support restoration under documented change‑control procedures.
  • Maintain up‑to‑date backups of PLC, HMI and drive programs and parameter sets, with documented backup and restoration procedures, in coordination with OEMs where applicable.
  • Diagnose control and interlock faults, and ensure safety interlocks are never bypassed without a documented and approved decision.
  • Work with equipment suppliers on control system faults, upgrades and remote support.
Projects, Spares & Cost Control
  • Prepare technical specifications, provide technical inputs for procurement, technically evaluate electrical/control equipment and support installation and commissioning of new equipment and replacements.

  • Support the Plant Head in maintaining statutory electrical compliance under applicable regulations, including coordination for Electrical Inspector requirements, earth resistance testing, transformer testing and other mandatory inspections through authorised personnel/agencies.
  • Maintain and update electrical documentation including single‑line diagrams, schematics, panel drawings, cable schedules and loop diagrams, ensuring that changes are properly incorporated into as‑built records.
  • Keep equipment history, calibration records, test certificates and downtime logs current in the ERP and audit‑ready.
  • Supervise and train electricians and technicians, support skill development and promote multi‑skilling and backup capability for critical maintenance activities.
  • Ensure contract electrical personnel have appropriate competency, licences where required, safety induction and authorisation before working on plant electrical equipment.
SKILLS & COMPETENCIES
  • Strong fault‑finding capability across power, control and instrumentation systems
  • Discipline in record‑keeping, drawings, calibration and test documentation
  • Clear direction and supervision of electricians and contract manpower
  • Commercial judgement in repair‑versus‑replace and spares stocking decisions
  • Ability to coordinate across Production, Mechanical Maintenance, Stores and Purchase
  • Composure and problem‑solving under time pressure during breakdowns
