The Electrical Design Engineer is responsible for the electrical engineering and design of industrial heat treatment furnaces and associated systems manufactured by Mass Engineers Pvt. Ltd.
The role involves developing electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, control panel designs, power distribution systems, cable schedules, BOMs, electrical calculations, instrumentation interfaces, and technical documentation.
The engineer will independently execute assigned electrical engineering packages and coordinate closely with Mechanical Design, Automation, Procurement, Production, Quality, Projects, and Service teams to ensure that electrical systems are technically sound, safe, cost-effective, manufacturable, and delivered within project schedules.

  • Develop electrical systems for industrial heat treatment furnaces and associated equipment.
  • Prepare electrical architecture for:
    • Heat treatment furnaces
    • Heating systems
    • Gas-fired and oil-fired furnace systems
    • Electric heating systems
    • Rapid quenching systems
    • Material handling systems
    • Cooling systems
    • Exhaust and combustion systems
    • Auxiliary equipment
  • Prepare power distribution schemes and control architectures.
  • Select appropriate electrical components based on load, application, environment, and applicable standards.

C. Electrical Load Calculations
Perform or coordinate:

  • Connected load calculations
  • Maximum demand calculations
  • Motor load calculations
  • Heater load calculations
  • Transformer sizing
  • Cable sizing
  • Busbar sizing
  • MCC incomer sizing
  • Circuit breaker selection
  • Short-circuit calculations where applicable
  • Voltage-drop calculations
  • Power factor considerations
  • Earthing requirements

Ensure adequate design margins are incorporated based on company engineering standards and project requirements.
D. Furnace Heating Systems
Develop electrical designs for furnace heating systems including:

  • Resistance heating elements
  • SCR / Thyristor power controllers
  • Contactors and switching devices
  • Temperature controllers
  • Over-temperature protection
  • Zone-wise heating control
  • Heater banks
  • Heater isolation
  • Electrical interlocks
  • Power monitoring
  • Energy measurement

Coordinate with Automation Engineers for integration with PLC/PID-based temperature control systems.
E. Control Panel Engineering
Design and engineer control panels including:

  • PCC
  • MCC
  • Furnace control panels
  • PLC panels

  • Thyristor/SCR panels
  • Local control stations
  • Junction boxes

Responsibilities include:

  • Component selection
  • Panel sizing
  • Panel GA
  • Internal layout

  • Cable entry arrangements
  • Panel ventilation/cooling
  • Component segregation
  • Identification and tagging


F. Motor & Drive Systems
Select and specify:

  • Motors
  • VFDs
  • Starters
  • Contactors

  • MCBs
  • Soft starters
  • Braking arrangements where required

G. Instrumentation Interface
Coordinate with Automation and Instrumentation teams for:

  • Temperature transmitters

4. Automation & PLC Interface
The Electrical Design Engineer will work closely with the PLC/Automation team to ensure seamless integration between electrical hardware and control systems.
Responsibilities include:

  • Develop electrical interfaces for PLC I/O.
  • Prepare I/O wiring diagrams.
  • Coordinate digital and analog signal requirements.
  • Provide control voltage distribution.
  • Develop electrical interlocks.
  • Coordinate emergency-stop circuits.
  • Interface VFDs, thyristors, controllers, and instruments with PLC systems.
  • Support PLC commissioning and troubleshooting when required.


5. Safety & Protection
Ensure appropriate electrical protection is incorporated, including:

  • Short-circuit protection
  • Overload protection
  • Earth-fault protection
  • Motor protection
  • Heater protection
  • Emergency-stop circuits
  • Control circuit protection
  • Isolation arrangements
  • Earthing and bonding
  • Electrical interlocks
  • Safety relays where applicable

Design shall consider applicable statutory requirements, customer specifications, and approved company standards.
6. Engineering Standards
The engineer shall work in accordance with applicable project requirements and relevant standards, which may include:

  • IEC standards

  • Machine safety requirements
  • Applicable furnace and industrial equipment standards
  • Project-specific specifications

Where projects require aerospace or automotive heat-treatment compliance, the engineer shall coordinate with the Quality and Engineering teams regarding applicable AMS 2750, CQI-9, NADCAP or customer-specific requirements.
7. Procurement & Vendor Coordination

  • Prepare technical specifications for electrical components.
  • Prepare electrical BOMs and material requisitions.
  • Evaluate vendor technical offers.
  • Review datasheets and catalogues.
  • Provide technical clarifications to Procurement.
  • Review vendor drawings.
  • Support technical evaluation and component standardization.
  • Coordinate with approved vendors for technical issues.


8. Manufacturing Support
Provide engineering support to the manufacturing team for:

  • Panel fabrication
  • Panel wiring
  • Cable routing
  • Component mounting
  • Electrical assembly
  • Terminal identification
  • Electrical testing
  • Motor connections
  • Heater connections
  • Site installation

Resolve electrical design-related shop-floor issues in coordination with the Lead Engineer.
