Job summary

Orcapod Consulting Services is seeking an experienced Electrical Design Engineer in India to lead new product development, electrical & instrumentation design for hazardous areas, and cross-functional collaboration to meet project milestones.

You will produce schematics, wiring diagrams, SLDs, BOMs, and design notes while supporting verification, testing, and supplier negotiations. Strong mentoring and stakeholder communication are expected.

  • Proven hands-on capability in motor controls and electrical design.
  • Experience interpreting customer requirements and translating to design plans.
  • Ability to produce schematics, wiring diagrams, SLDs, BOMs, and assembly docs.
  • Familiarity with electrical standards and safe engineering practices.

  • Interpret requirements and translate into design, verification, and documentation plans.
  • Support testing, troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and corrective actions.
  • Engage with suppliers for component selection, lead-times, and quotations.
  • Prepare technical specifications for purchasing electrical equipment/materials.

Job description

Role & responsibilities
Key responsibilities
  • New Product Development: contribute to concept development, feasibility studies, trade-offs, prototyping support, and technology down-selection for new products.
  • Electrical & C&I design: develop schematics, wiring/loop diagrams, single-line diagrams, interconnection/assembly drawings, and design notes.
  • Requirements & compliance: interpret customer, internal, and applicable industry requirements; translate into design, verification, and documentation plans.
  • Testing & troubleshooting: support integration, verification/qualification testing, root-cause analysis, and corrective actions.
  • Supplier reach-out & collaboration: engage with suppliers/manufacturers for component selection, technical clarifications, quotations/lead-times, alternates/obsolescence mitigation, and sample/qualification support.
  • Procurement specs: prepare technical specifications for purchasing electrical equipment/materials; support vendor document review where needed.
  • Documentation: develop and maintain project deliverables such as functional design specifications, test procedures, commissioning/support documents, and O&M manuals.
  • Sustaining engineering: support production issues, engineering change requests, design improvements, and product lifecycle updates.
  • Cross-functional execution: collaborate with systems, mechanical, firmware/software, manufacturing, quality, and project stakeholders to meet schedule and quality targets.
Authorities
  • Make day-to-day technical decisions within assigned scope; elevate safety/requirement gaps, design risks, and major trade-offs to the design/technical lead.
  • Review and verify drawings/documents for technical correctness within delegated limits.
  • Recommend component choices, supplier alternatives, test methods, and design improvements based on engineering judgment and standards.
Accountabilities
  • On-time, accurate delivery of assigned NPD and sustaining electrical designs and documentation.
  • Compliance with applicable standards, safety practices, and customer requirements (including hazardous area practices where applicable).
  • Clear technical communication: design rationale, calculations/assumptions, test results, and issue tracking.
  • Effective supplier and stakeholder coordination to reduce technical risk, lead-time risk, and obsolescence risk.
  • Continuous learning and completion of required trainings; guide designers/technicians when assigned

Preferred candidate profile

  • Bachelors degree (BE/BTech) in Electrical Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering (EEE), Electrical & Instrumentation, Instrumentation & Control, or a closely related discipline.
  • 4–5 years of relevant industry experience in electrical engineering
Required Technical Qualifications
  • Strong fundamentals and hands-on capability in motor controls
  • Solid experience in control & instrumentation circuit design
  • Experience in electrical controls system for Hazardous area.
  • Proficiency in producing and maintaining electrical design deliverables such as schematics, wiring diagrams, single-line diagrams (SLD), BOMs, and assembly-level documentation.
  • Working knowledge of design verification/testing, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis.
  • Familiarity with relevant electrical engineering standards and safe engineering practices; ability to work with customer specifications.
Leadership / team contribution
  • Demonstrated interest in taking on technical leadership responsibilities, including planning and coordinating work for a small team (2–4 members).
  • Ability to mentor junior engineers/designers, delegate tasks, and ensure timely completion of assigned deliverables.
  • Comfortable leading technical discussions, driving closure of action items, and escalating risks/issues appropriately
  • Excellent communication and collaboration with cross-functional teams and suppliers.
Tools (preferred)
  • Experience with electrical CAD / schematic tools (any industry-standard tool); ability to work with drawing control practices.
  • SAP/GEMS
  • Good documentation skills (specs, test procedures, reports) and structured problem-solving.
