The Director – Physical Education will provide strategic, academic and administrative leadership for the Physical Education function at AIMS Institutes. The incumbent will be responsible for planning, developing and managing comprehensive physical education, fitness and sports programmes; promoting student participation and sporting excellence; developing institutional sports teams and athletes; managing sports infrastructure and resources; organising competitions and coaching camps; and establishing collaborations with universities, sports bodies and other institutions. The position will contribute to the holistic development, health, wellbeing, discipline and leadership capabilities of students while ensuring that the Institute's Physical Education activities are aligned with applicable UGC, affiliating-university and institutional requirements.
- Develop and implement the Institute's annual and long-term Physical Education strategy.
- Establish a structured sports development framework covering participation, fitness, recreation and competitive sports.
- Prepare the annual sports calendar and activity plan.

- Organise coaching camps of appropriate duration and quality.
- Coordinate coaches, referees, officials, venues, equipment, transportation and other logistics.
- Ensure appropriate medical, first-aid, safety and emergency arrangements during sporting events.
- Maintain complete records of competitions, participation, results and achievements.
- Manage and monitor the Institute's sports facilities, playgrounds, courts, gymnasium and fitness infrastructure.
- Assess infrastructure requirements based on student participation and sporting needs.
- Prepare proposals for new sports facilities and improvement of existing infrastructure.
- Ensure proper maintenance and safe utilisation of sports facilities.
- Develop and maintain an inventory of sports equipment.
- Recommend procurement, replacement and upgrading of equipment.
- Ensure appropriate scheduling and utilisation of sports facilities.
- Prepare the annual Physical Education budget.
- Plan expenditure for equipment, coaching, competitions, infrastructure, travel and other sports-related requirements.
- Monitor expenditure against approved budgets.
- Ensure effective and accountable utilisation of institutional resources.
- Coordinate with Finance, Administration, Procurement and Facilities departments.
- Prepare periodic financial and activity reports for institutional management.
- Establish professional relationships with universities, colleges, sports federations, associations, academies and recognised sporting bodies.
- Coordinate with the affiliating university and relevant sports authorities.
- Represent AIMS Institutes at appropriate sports meetings, competitions and professional forums.
- Develop opportunities for inter-institutional sports collaborations.
- Explore opportunities for hosting recognised tournaments and sporting events at AIMS.
- Provide appropriate guidance and mentoring to student athletes.
- Monitor student-athlete participation and academic-sport balance.
- Facilitate appropriate support for students representing AIMS at external competitions.
- Promote safe, ethical and inclusive sporting practices.
- Ensure that students participating in sports activities receive appropriate safety guidance and support.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of sports activities, participation and achievements.
- Provide verified data and supporting evidence for institutional accreditation and statutory reporting.
- Support NAAC, NIRF, UGC, university and other institutional reporting requirements, wherever applicable.
- Maintain records of sports teams, athletes, competitions, coaching camps, awards and achievements.
- Ensure compliance with applicable institutional policies and regulatory requirements.
- Implement appropriate safety, risk-management and safeguarding procedures for sports activities.
Ph.D. in Physical Education or Physical Education or Sports Science. UGC
A Master's degree in Physical Education/Sports Science or an equivalent relevant qualification may be prescribed by the Institute as an additional/preferred qualification, subject to the applicable recruitment rules.
The Candidate Should Possess
- At least 10 years of relevant experience in Physical Education, including experience as University Assistant/Deputy Director of Physical Education, College Director of Physical Education, or equivalent teaching experience in Physical Education at Assistant/Associate Professor level, as applicable under the UGC framework. UUGC
- Demonstrable experience in organising sports competitions.
- Experience in organising and conducting coaching camps of at least two weeks' duration.
- Demonstrated evidence of developing/producing good-performing teams or athletes at state, national, inter-university or comparable levels. UUGC
- M.P.Ed./Master's Degree in Physical Education, Sports Science or equivalent.
- Experience in a university/college/higher-education environment.
- Experience in managing multidisciplinary sports programmes.
- Experience in managing sports infrastructure, gymnasiums and outdoor sporting facilities.
- Recognised coaching/training qualifications in one or more sports.
- Experience in athlete development and high-performance sports.
- Experience in organising university/state/national-level tournaments.
- Experience in institutional accreditation and sports-related data/reporting.
- Participation in or contribution to recognised seminars, conferences, workshops or professional forums in Physical Education/Sports.
