Job Description

Diploma Engineer trainee - Field Service. UPS System service Engineer. A UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) engineer installs, maintains, and repairs UPS systems to ensure continuous power for critical equipment. This role involves troubleshooting technical issues, performing preventative maintenance, providing customer support, conducting site surveys, designing systems, and managing project timelines.

Responsibilities
  • Installation and Commissioning: Installing and setting up new UPS systems, including associated equipment like transfer switches and power distribution units; configuring and maintaining UPS systems according to manufacturer specifications and industry best practices; conducting routine maintenance for AC/ DC power system hardware and testing of UPS systems to ensure optimal performance and reliability; performing routine maintenance of Li‑ion, Ni‑cad, and sealed lead batteries; drafting service reports following breakdown or maintenance visits.
  • Onsite Maintenance and Repair: Performing routine maintenance, diagnosing and repairing faults, and replacing components such as capacitors and batteries.
  • Onsite Troubleshooting: Identifying and resolving technical issues with UPS systems using diagnostic tools and software; maintaining accurate records of work performed and parts used in accordance with company policies; providing remote support or corrective attendance on short notice to priority sites during critical system failures; developing upgrade plans to suit client needs and performing system modifications or upgrades.
  • Customer Support: Providing technical support to clients, answering questions, and training them on the proper use of UPS systems; working with clients to identify their power requirements and recommend appropriate UPS solutions; ensuring good email communication and report‑writing skills.
  • Documentation: Maintaining accurate records of maintenance, repairs, and site visits; reading and providing single‑line diagrams.
  • Safety: Adhering to safety regulations and procedures when working with electrical equipment.
  • Project Management: Managing project timelines to ensure successful completion of installation and maintenance tasks; collaborating with team members and subcontractors to complete projects on time and within budget.
  • Site Assessments: Evaluating customer sites to determine appropriate UPS system requirements.
Qualifications
  • Qualification in diploma or degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering.
  • A strong understanding of electrical and electronic systems, including power distribution, automatic transfer switch, PDU, SKRU and related components.
  • Strong, demonstrable troubleshooting/fault‑diagnostics skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with clients and team members.
  • A commitment to providing excellent customer service and support.
  • Knowledge and understanding in reading electrical one‑line schematics.
  • Efficient organization and ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Availability for after‑hours (post‑17:00) and weekend shifts, sometimes at short notice.
  • Daily travel to and from customer sites.
