Job summary

Qualifications

About the Role

We are looking for a Design Lead to shape the visual world of Kidureka across our books, toys, activity kits and learning products.

This is a design-first role. You will be responsible for creating and evolving the design language across our product portfolio—from children's books and comics to toys, kits, packaging and other physical learning experiences.

We are looking for someone who combines strong design ability with a deep understanding of children: how they see, learn, interact and engage with products, and how parents evaluate and choose them.

The ideal candidate understands that designing for children requires more than making something colourful or attractive. It requires a strong understanding of child behaviour, education, storytelling, usability, visual communication and premium product design.

What You'll Do

• Lead the design and development of children’s books, storybooks, activity books, comics, and educational publications by creating visual concepts, page layouts, covers, typography, and illustration directions. Develop age‑appropriate visual styles and cohesive design systems for book series and collections, collaborate closely with writers, illustrators, editors, and content teams, and manage the complete book design process from concept development and artwork to production and final product delivery.
• Lead the visual and graphic design of learning products, including books, toys, games, activity kits, and educational materials, by developing cohesive visual languages across product components, cards, boards, packaging, instructions, and supporting materials. Ensure designs are engaging, user-friendly, age‑appropriate, and suitable for children’s needs while considering usability and manufacturing constraints. Collaborate closely with product and production teams to ensure the final physical product aligns with the creative vision and design intent.
• Define and evolve Kidureka’s overall design language by establishing consistent principles for colour, typography, illustration, characters, graphics, layouts, icons, and packaging. Develop a cohesive and recognizable visual identity across product categories, create scalable design systems that maintain freshness and uniqueness, and ensure the brand consistently reflects a contemporary, premium, playful, and child‑centric identity.
• Set the creative direction for new products and categories, lead and mentor designers, illustrators, and external creative partners, and ensure high standards of design quality and execution. Drive teams to develop innovative, meaningful concepts beyond visual aesthetics, while fostering a culture of research, experimentation, collaboration, and thoughtful design.

What We're Looking For

• We are looking for a professional with 5+ years of experience and a strong background in designing children’s products, with experience across areas such as children’s publishing, toys and games, educational and learning products, children’s brands and media, D2C consumer products, EdTech, product design, or communication and visual design.
• Prior experience in children’s publishing is highly preferred. Candidates with hands‑on experience in designing books, comics, activity products, educational kits, or other physical products for children, along with a strong understanding of the complete product development and production process, will be an ideal fit for this role.
• A degree or formal training in Design, Communication Design, Graphic Design, Product Design, Visual Communication, Architecture or a related creative discipline is preferred.
• Candidates from institutions such as NID, NIFT, IIT, Srishti, SPA, CEPT or other strong design / architecture institutions would be preferred.
• We welcome candidates from non-traditional backgrounds who have transitioned into design and built a strong portfolio with substantial experience in designing for children.
