Core Team Engineer - Closures
Automotive OEM (name withheld) · Body Engineering · Pune/Chennai · 8-10 yr grade
The role
Own design integrity for closure systems - hoods, fenders, liftgates, tailgates, side doors, hardware, sealing systems, door modules, and manual tops - making sure design rules and best practices are applied consistently across every component and program you touch.
What you'll actually do
- Drive closure component/system development against quality, performance, timing, and cost targets, working closely with specialist functions.
- Coordinate across regional and cross-functional teams on shared development programs.
- Own homologation and regulatory compliance for closure systems, from understanding requirements through supporting implementation.
- Push designs through the full cycle - engineering, design, development, timing, and release.
- Support supplier development (internal and external), weight and cost reduction efforts, and validation of your assigned components.
- Lead on standardization, re-use, benchmarking, and lessons-learned across your domain - codifying what works so it doesn't get relearned every program.
- Troubleshoot part quality issues during builds, drive root-cause analysis, and verify technical integrity whenever a design changes.
- Feed product diversity decisions in partnership with Vehicle Program, Product Planning, and Brand teams.
- Support source package development and keep your work compliant with internal controls.
What you'll bring
- B.E./B.Tech or M.E./M.Tech in Mechanical, Automotive, or Electrical Engineering.
- 8-12 years designing and applying closure systems, with hands-on CAD in UG NX or CATIA in a production-release environment.
- Working knowledge of Team Center/PLM.
- Real depth in sheet metal, sealing systems, and mechanism design - plus comfort in the stamping/press/hemming side of manufacturing.
- OEM experience and a working understanding of homologation and regulatory requirements.
- A track record of solving closure-specific product problems, not just theoretical design work.
- A self-starter who works well cross-functionally and doesn't need heavy oversight to move a program forward.
