Job summary

Larsen & Toubro in India seeks a Design Lead (Civil/Structural) to drive complete design and detailed engineering for PV solar plants. You will coordinate with electrical, instrumentation and mechanical teams to deliver design within budget and schedule.

The role requires 5–7 years in civil-structural design for large energy projects and experience with pre-bid and tender activities. Location includes Chennai and other major cities; travel may be required.

Qualifications

• B.Tech in Civil or M.Tech in Structural Engineering.
• 5–7 years of experience in design of Solar PV Power Plants, Thermal Power Plants, and Power Distribution Projects.
• Ability to perform complete Civil-Structural design and detailed engineering for PV solar plants.

Responsibilities

• Timely review of drawings from draughtsmen.
• Detail design of civil and structural components for solar plants (modules, buildings, roads, drainage, fencing).
• Prepare and review pre-bid queries, DBR, BOQ and scope of work for proposals and projects.
• Propose optimization ideas during pre-bid and project stages to reduce costs.
• Ensure compliance with specifications and quality checklists.
• Review vendor offers and engineering documents.
• Pre-tender engineering including BOM estimation and offer reviews.

Minimum Qualification: B.Tech in Civil /M.Tech in Structural Engineering

Experience: 5 – 7 years (Must have experience in design aspects of Solar PV Power Plants, Thermal Power Plants, Power Distribution Projects)

Objective: The person shall be capable of complete design and detailed engineering of Civil Structural Engineering of PV Solar Power plants. The Design Engineer is capable of carrying out the entire design for a project or a set of smaller projects including co-ordination with other disciplines viz., Electrical, Instrumentation and Mechanical. Design Engineers shall work with a team of draughts person to manage the Engineering activities within budget, deliver on time and maintaining a high quality of engineering

Key Responsibilities

• Timely review of the drawings developed by the draftsman
• Detail design of Civil and Structural components of Solar Plants such as Module mounting Steel Structures, Buildings, Road, Drain, Fence / Compound Wall, Grading and levelling cable Trenches
• Preparation and review of Pre-bid queries, DBR, BOQ & Scope of work for Proposal Engineering & Project Engineering.
• Propose optimization Ideas during Pre-bid stage and also during project stage to reduce the Project Cost
• Ensure compliance to specification requirements
• Review of drawings and Documentation conforming to Quality systems and Check List
• Review of Vendor Offers and Documents
• Pre-Tender Engineering including estimation of BOM (Bill of Materials) and Offer Reviews

Technical Expertise

Design Engineer shall be capable of executing the engineering activities for civil & structural covering control room buildings, transformer foundations, outdoor equipment foundations, inverter rooms, grading, roads and drainage, outdoor steel structures and miscellaneous works related to the Solar Power Plant. Design Engineer shall be able to review Vendor engineering documents with respect to Civil & Structural design
