Job summary

Fourvac Technologies in Pune, India is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to design vacuum chambers, flanges and fixtures from customer specs, and to create 3D models in SolidWorks with manufacturing drawings in SolidWorks and AutoCAD.

You will perform engineering calculations, GD&T, tolerance analyses, select materials, review vendor drawings, support production and sales with technical inputs, and maintain drawing revisions and a design library.

Qualifications

• Degree in mechanical engineering or related field with hands-on design exp.
• Proficient in GD&T and manufacturing drawings for machining and fabrication.
• Experience with vacuum systems and pressure-containing assemblies is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design vacuum chambers, flanges, manipulators and fixtures from customer specs.
• Create 3D models and release drawings in SolidWorks and AutoCAD with GD&T and BOMs.
• Perform engineering calculations and FEA checks for stress and deflection.
• Ensure designs are practical for machining, welding and fabrication shop.
• Support customers and sales with technical discussions, drawings, and quotes.
• Maintain drawing numbers, revisions and the design library.
• Select materials and bought-out parts, and conduct tolerance analyses.
• Specify surface finishes and leak-test requirements on drawings.
• Review vendor drawings and assist vendors with machined parts.
• Attend FATs and resolve design issues, handle engineering changes promptly.
• Prepare operation manuals, QAP inputs and as-built drawings.

Job description

Key responsibilities

• Design vacuum chambers, flanges, manipulators, fixtures and custom assemblies from customer specifications.
• Build 3D models in SolidWorks and release manufacturing drawings in SolidWorks and AutoCAD, with correct GD&T, tolerances and BOMs.
• Do engineering calculations and FEA checks for stress, deflection, pressure and thermal loads.
• Make designs practical for our machining, welding and fabrication shop, and solve build issues with Production and Quality.
• Support customers and the sales team with technical discussions, drawings and quotation inputs.
• Maintain drawing numbers, revisions and the design library.
• Select materials (SS 304L/316L, aluminium, OFHC copper) and bought-out parts such as bearings, motors, bellows, valves and seals.
• Do tolerance stack-up analysis for critical assemblies and fits.
• Specify surface finish, cleaning, welding and leak-test requirements on drawings.
• Review vendor drawings and support vendors on machined and fabricated parts.
• Attend assembly, inspection and factory acceptance tests (FAT), and fix design issues found there.
• Handle engineering changes quickly when customers or the shop floor ask for them.
• Prepare technical documents: operation manuals, QAP inputs and as-built drawings.
• Build a library of standard parts and designs to cut design time on repeat products.
