Job summary

Birla White, the white cement division of UltraTech Cement Limited, seeks a senior mining leader to drive strategic mine planning, safety excellence, and digital transformation within a large-scale operation.

You will lead QA/QC throughout the mining value chain, coordinate regulatory compliance, and mentor a multi-skilled team to optimize production and efficiency in a dynamic, auto‑mated plant environment.

Responsibilities

• Mine planning and digital transformation: develop 5-year and annual mine plans, drive use of planning tools, implement SOPs for survey and reconciliation.
• Drive QA/QC from drilling to crushing, coordinate with QC, RMHS and Process to meet quality and quantity targets.
• Shape land procurement strategies and coordinate with land department for compliant acquisitions.
• Guide pit design and ensure blend plans meet plant quality requirements and inventories.
• Liaise with DGMS, SPCB/CPCB, MOEFCC, IBM and others for timely statutory compliance and approvals.
• Implement safety standards to aim for zero injuries and drive incident investigations and audit closures.
• Drive IMS and zero non-conformity across processes, monitor MTBF/MTTR improvements.
• Set SMART goals and develop multi-skill teams, with succession planning and training.

Key Responsibilities:

• Mine Planning and Digital Transformation: Prepare conceptual, five-year and annual mining plans against deposit sensitivity and sustainable production targets, drive adoption of Datamine, Surpac and MineSched for systematic planning, implement SOPs for survey, blast sampling and reconciliation of quantity and quality against planned locations, and lead change management on digital initiatives with the HO Mines Cell
• Production: Drive QA/QC from drilling through crushing, coordinate with QC, RMHS and Process on dispatch of limestone to the required quality and quantity, monitor leading and lagging indicators on operator and equipment efficiency, and enable the team to optimise lead distance, productivity and fuel consumption within budget
• Mine Development: Shape land procurement strategy and coordinate with the land department to acquire land in line with mine planning including encroached land, and review short and long-term mine development plans to achieve cost-effective operations and judicious use of reserves
• Quality and Planning: Guide pit design through mine planning software on annual, quarterly, monthly and daily horizons, enable production plans through the planning cell with quality blend plans matched to plant requirement, and manage material inventory of suitable grade to meet plant quality demand sustainably
• Statutory Compliance: Liaise with DGMS, SPCB and CPCB, MOEFCC, IBM, Explosives, Welfare and Labour authorities and local statutory bodies for timely compliance, ensure implementation of EC conditions, 106-2b permission and the Safety Management Plan, and hold responsibility for legal and statutory requirements of contractual working
• Safety Excellence: Implement all applicable safety standards with a target of zero injury, drive progressive consequence management, contribute to safety subcommittees and daily walkthrough rounds as a visible felt leader, complete incident investigations within timeline, close out FPSA, SPSA, TPSA and external audit findings before target date, and keep SOPs and SWPs current
• System Implementation: Drive IMS and other standards to zero non-conformity, monitor WCM (ABOF) MIS for full compliance against 5S, BCE and hygiene audits, evaluate Kaizen and suggestions, mentor KFA and GRT under the ABOE framework, identify digitalisation opportunities, and execute plans for statutory compliance and MTBF/MTTR improvement
• People Management and Development: Set SMART and differentiating goals aligned to unit and business targets with real-time feedback and unbiased recognition, develop the team for multi-skilling through the 70:20:10 model, run succession planning and job rotation, identify common training needs, and build action plans on Team Vibes results to lift engagement

Business and Unit Brief

Birla White is the white cement division of UltraTech Cement Limited and operates as a P&L centre. Over the last decade it has grown from a single commodity product into a significant value-added and specialty portfolio including Wall Care Putty, Textura, Level Plast, liquid primer, GRC, fragrance putty variants and WallSeal waterproofing putty, offered across 84 SKUs from 1 kg to 50 kg packs. The division is the Indian leader in white cement with a 52.3 per cent market share and holds over 45.5 per cent in cement-based putty. Installed white cement capacity is 720,000 MT per annum and wall care putty capacity 13,76,000 MT per annum, with overall volume rising from 16,11,000 MT to 20,96,000 MT per annum once Nathdwara commissions. The plant is fully integrated and automated and is accredited with ISO 9002, ISO 14001, SA 8000, ISO 45000 and ISO 50001.

The department manages limestone production capacity of 11,50,000 MT across two limestone leases and one china clay lease, with a team of 21. The defining challenges are systematic long, medium and short-term mine planning for sustainable development, maintaining haul roads and working conditions for safe and efficient HEMM operation, managing material inventory to meet plant quality demand without compromising mine life, optimising cost across the mining value chain, keeping pace with frequent changes in safety and environmental regulation, and planning mined-out pits for rainwater storage in a water-scarce location.
