Job summary

Responsibilities

• Plan and monitor mechanical operation and maintenance across mills, kilns, crushers and WHRS, coordinate shutdowns and analyse breakdowns.
• Control spares, lubricants, inventory and manpower costs; evaluate high-value spares and vendor options; optimise lubrication and overtime.
• Identify bottlenecks, propose capex for upgrades and debottlenecking, obtain budgets, and support project execution.
• Drive ISO 9001 and quality targets, improve OEE, MTBF/MTTR; close NCRs; perform root-cause analysis and internal audits.
• Maintain safety practices to prevent accidents; analyse incidents and implement corrective actions; ensure compliance with Factories Act and environmental rules.
• Engage internal customers for feedback, coordinate actions with teams, and plan internal or external manpower for major work.
• Lead people management: set objectives, appraisal, discipline, training needs and cross-skilling within the department.

Job description

Key Responsibilities

• Plant Availability: Plan and monitor mechanical operation and maintenance across limestone crusher, coal receiving, coal handling plant, three raw mills, coal mills, kilns and WHRS equipment up to boilers, coordinate shutdown activity, review weekly and major shutdown plans, and analyse major breakdowns to put corrective action in place
• Cost Control: Plan and control spares, lubricating oil, inventory and manpower cost against budget, develop vendors for import substitution, run life and value analysis on repetitive breakdowns and high-value spares, optimise lubrication consumption, arrest false air leakage, and control utilisation of contract manpower and overtime
• Continuous Improvement and Capex: Identify weak links in the system, work with OEMs and consultants on specification and drawing revisions, formulate capex proposals for equipment upgradation and debottlenecking, seek budget approval, and support the project team through execution
• System Implementation: Ensure ISO 9001 implementation, drive attainment of quality improvement objectives, WCM criteria score and EMS targets, close NCRs on time, improve OEE, MTBF and MTTR, run why-why analysis on breakdowns, conduct internal audits, and participate in autonomous maintenance and WCM subcommittee activity
• Safety and Statutory Compliance: Monitor safety measures and practices to sustain accident-free working, analyse accidents and ensure corrective action, develop procedures, organise and monitor jobs required for safety improvement, and ensure compliance with Factories Act and environment-related requirements
• Internal Customer Management: Meet internal customers regularly to take feedback and route it to the concerned teams for corrective action, facilitate the manpower required from within the unit, and recommend outside contract labour for major jobs
• People Management: Set performance objectives, appraise subordinates and give feedback, maintain discipline, plan and rationalise manpower, identify training needs and drive multi-skilling, provide role clarity and mentoring, and measure skill inventory across the department
