Explorance is seeking a Database Administrator to join the Chennai CloudOps team. You will implement, configure, and maintain SQL Server databases across on‑prem and Azure, ensuring availability, performance, and security for our SaaS apps.

Role requires hands‑on expertise in T-SQL, HA/DR with Always On, Azure SQL, and strong PowerShell scripting. A proactive problem‑solver thriving in a global, collaborative setting will excel.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience as a Database Administrator with a focus on Microsoft SQL Server.
• Expert-level knowledge of T-SQL.

Responsibilities

• Install, configure, and maintain on‑premises SQL Server databases across dev, test, and prod.
• Configure Azure SQL Databases and related storage resources.
• Implement backup, recovery, and DR strategies.
• Ensure security, performance, and high availability (Always On).

Currently, we are looking to add a Database Administrator with a solid background in Microsoft SQL Server to join our growing CloudOps team.

As an Explorance DBA, you will be joining the Global CloudOps Team out of our Chennai office. You will be responsible for the implementation, configuration, maintenance, and performance of critical Microsoft SQL Server database systems to ensure the availability, performance, and security of our SaaS applications. This is a hands-on position requiring strong technical and troubleshooting skills, as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Key Responsibilities:

Database Administration & Implementation

• Install, configure, administer, and maintain on-premises Microsoft SQL Server databases across development, testing, and production environments.
• Configure, tune, and manage Azure SQL Databases and associated storage resources.
• Apply data modeling techniques to support integration, scalability, and performance requirements.
• Participate in database upgrades, migrations, and infrastructure improvement initiatives.
• Ensure high levels of database performance, availability, reliability, and security.

High Availability & Disaster Recovery

• Configure, monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize SQL Server Always on Availability Groups and clustering solutions.
• Develop, document, and implement backup and recovery strategies.
• Ensure disaster recovery readiness and data protection standards are maintained.

Performance Tuning & Optimization

• Monitor database performance and proactively identify bottlenecks and optimization opportunities.
• Analyze and optimize T-SQL queries, indexing strategies, and database configurations.
• Review deployment scripts and provide recommendations to improve performance and reliability.
• Utilize native SQL Server and 3rd party monitoring and troubleshooting tools to optimize database performance.

Security & Compliance

• Implement and manage database security controls, including Transparent Data Encryption (TDE), Change Data Capture (CDC), and auditing capabilities.
• Manage user access, permissions, and database security policies.
• Support compliance with organizational security standards and best practices.

Monitoring & Automation

• Develop and enhance database monitoring solutions to improve visibility and operational efficiency.
• Automate routine database administration tasks using PowerShell and other appropriate tools.
• Continuously improve database operations, maintenance procedures, and documentation.
• Support capacity planning and resource utilization analysis.

Troubleshooting & Support

• Diagnose and resolve production database issues in support of service-level objectives.
• Support application development teams with database design, query optimization, and troubleshooting.
• Perform scheduled maintenance and support release deployment activities as required.
• Follow and participate in Explorance development standards and guidelines.
• Work closely with CloudOps, Development, and Infrastructure teams to support business initiatives.
• Collaborate effectively with global teams across North America, EMEA, and APAC.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience as a Database Administrator with a strong focus on Microsoft SQL Server.
• Expert-level knowledge of T-SQL.
• Experience with database performance tuning and optimization.
• Experience administering Azure SQL Database environments.
• Experience with High Availability and Disaster Recovery technologies, including Always On Availability Groups.
• Experience working with Windows Server and Active Directory.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem‑solving skills.
• Ability to organize and plan work independently.
• Results‑oriented team player with strong communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a rapidly changing environment.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities across geographically distributed teams.

Preferred Skills:

• Experience with SSIS, SSRS, and SSAS.
• Experience with ETL processes and data integration.
• PowerShell scripting and process automation experience.
• Knowledge of Azure services such as Logic Apps, Elastic Jobs, Azure Analytics, and related services.
• Experience with PostgreSQL administration.
• Experience working with Microsoft OLAP architecture.
• Experience with database monitoring and observability solutions.
• Understanding of fundamental design principles behind scalable applications.
