Job summary

OBZ seeks a Data Practice Lead in Bangalore to own the technical vision, build capabilities, and drive presales for the Data practice. The role is hands-on, architecting data platforms on AWS and guiding large engineering teams across projects.

You will lead strategy, develop differentiated data offerings, and partner with sales to secure multi-million opportunities, while ensuring delivery readiness and client alignment.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of experience in Data Engineering or Analytics, including leadership of a practice, COE, or large team.
• Hands-on depth on AWS and modern data stacks (Spark, Databricks, Kafka).
• Experience in presales – RFP/RFI response, solutioning, and CxO-level client engagement.
• Proven ability to define roadmaps, drive architecture, and build scalable data platforms.
• Advanced skills in Google Workspace, PowerPoint, and Excel.

Responsibilities

• Define the roadmap for the Data practice and track market trends.
• Architect and oversee data platforms on AWS (ingestion, warehousing, lakehouse).
• Lead hiring, mentoring, and scaling of a data engineering team.
• Develop differentiated offerings and capability decks for client engagement.
• Create reusable frameworks and knowledge assets from completed projects.
• Partner with presales to convert data strategy into winning proposals.
• Own end-to-end bid pricing and profitability modeling for data deals.

About the role

Data Practice Lead Location: Bangalore, India (office-based) Experience: 15+ Years The Role The Data Practice Lead owns the technical vision, capability building, and presales strategy for OBZ's Data practice — anchoring large-scale opportunities and ensuring what's sold can be delivered. This is a hands-on leadership role: you'll architect and steer data platforms on AWS, build and scale engineering teams, and be the technical face of the practice in front of clients and senior stakeholders. What You Will Do Practice Leadership – Define the roadmap for OBZ's Data practice, tracking market trends and emerging technologies. Platform & Architecture – Architect and oversee data engineering platforms — ingestion, warehousing, and lakehouse — on AWS. Team Building – Hire, mentor, and scale a high-performing data engineering team; build a culture of quality, automation, and ownership. Innovation & Offerings – Build differentiated solution offerings, use cases, and capability decks that position OBZ as a credible data engineering player. Asset Creation – Build reusable frameworks, accelerators, and an internal knowledge base from past projects. Solution Architecture – Partner with presales/account leads on medium-to-large opportunities; turn data strategy into proposal narratives. Bid Strategy – Own end-to-end proposal development for data-centric RFIs/RFPs. Executive Facilitation – Lead client-facing strategy sessions covering solution, delivery approach, and commercial terms. Cross-Functional Alignment – Be the bridge between Sales and Delivery — make sure sold scope is deliverable. Profitability Management – Own bid pricing and profitability models for Data practice deals.

What you'll bring

What We Are Looking For Candidates should meet the following skills and experience requirements: 12+ years in Data Engineering or Analytics, including experience leading a practice, COE, or large engineering team (20+). Hands-on depth on AWS and modern data engineering stacks — Spark, Databricks, Kafka, and equivalent ingestion/orchestration tools. Strong grounding in DevSecOps practices and enterprise data governance (MDM, data quality, cataloging). Proven presales experience — RFP/RFI response, solutioning, and CxO-level client engagement. Advanced Google Workspace, PowerPoint, and Excel.
