Job summary

BDO India is seeking a senior data and analytics leader to steer enterprise-scale data initiatives in a cloud-based environment. You will guide data engineers, oversee pipelines and models, and ensure platform reliability.

You will collaborate with architects and stakeholders to translate designs into scalable solutions, promote engineering best practices, and mentor teams across Global IT portfolios.

Qualifications

• Senior-level experience leading the design and delivery of enterprise-scale data/analytics solutions in the cloud (Azure preferred).
• Hands-on data engineering and analytics solution development, including pipelines and models.
• Experience with Spark-based pipelines, tuning, and cost/performance tradeoffs in cloud environments.
• Familiarity with modern cloud data platforms and data lakehouse patterns.
• Ability to guide engineers and contribute to technical decisions in delivery teams.
• Knowledge of software engineering best practices for data platforms (CI/CD, tests, code quality).
• Experience with CI/CD-driven delivery for data solutions.
• Understanding of data security, access control, and privacy by design in multi-tenant environments.
• Strong communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
• Experience in Agile delivery environments.

Responsibilities

• Act as the technical lead for data delivery, guiding Data Engineers and Analytics Engineers.

Key accountabilities

Performance and progress in the following areas will be the priorities for this position:

Technical Leadership

• Act as the technical lead for delivery execution, providing clear guidance to Data Engineers and Analytics Engineers.
• Ensure all solutions are developed in accordance with approved Solution Design documents, architecture standards, privacy and security requirements.
• Promote and enforce engineering best practices, including coding standards, testing, documentation, and peer review.
• Stay current with modern data management tools, platforms, and practices, ensuring the team is using supported and using bestinclass capabilities.
• Act as a point of technical escalation for complex engineering issues during development and support.

Data Development & Delivery

• Act as an ambassador for the data platform internally and externally, and as the primary technical contact for related queries.
• Oversee the development and implementation of data pipelines, data models, and analytics solutions across the data platform.
• Own the technical reliability and operational integrity of the data platform, including incident triage, rootcause analysis, and continuous improvement of production services.
• Ensure consistent and highquality implementation across Microsoft Fabric and Azurebased services and related tooling.
• Guide engineers on how to implement designs effectively, identifying risks or ambiguities and feeding these back to Architects where required.
• Support delivery planning by ensuring work is technically feasible, wellsequenced, and aligned to standards.
• Review technical outputs to confirm they meet functional and nonfunctional requirements.

Team Leadership

• Provide daytoday technical coaching and mentoring to Data Engineers and Analytics Engineers.
• Support onboarding and upskilling of team members in platform tooling, patterns, and best practices.
• Encourage collaboration, knowledge sharing, and consistent ways of working across the team.

Stakeholder Engagement & Collaboration

• Work closely with Data Architects and Solution Architects to clarify designs and surface delivery considerations.
• Communicate technical risks, dependencies, and implementation considerations clearly to Product Owners and delivery stakeholders.
• Provide feedback from delivery back into design and standards discussions to improve future outcomes.
• Act as a trusted technical advisor within the Data & Reporting delivery function.
• Develop strong relationships, particularly with Business Owners and key stakeholders across Global IT portfolios. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
• Communicate and articulate the benefits of any new features of the data platform and how they can help BDO deliver on its strategic goals

Core

1. Demonstrated seniorlevel experience leading the design and delivery of enterprisescale data and analytics solutions in a cloud environment (ideally Azure based).

2. Strong handson capability in data engineering and analytics solution development, including building and optimising data pipelines, models, and analytical workloads.

3. Proven expertise building and optimising Sparkbased data pipelines, including workload tuning, partitioning strategies, efficient storage formats, and cost/performance tradeoffs in cloud environments.

4. Proven experience working with modern cloud data platforms and lakehouse architectures, applying patterns such as medallion, domainoriented, or eventdriven design.

5. Demonstrated ability to guide engineers and contribute to sound technical decisionmaking in delivery teams.

6. Strong understanding of software engineering best practices applied to data platforms, including version control, testing, code quality, documentation, and peer review.

7. Handson experience working within CI/CDdriven delivery environments for data solutions.

8. Solid knowledge of data security, access control, and privacybydesign principles, and how these are applied in multitenant or regulated environments.

9. Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and nontechnical audiences.

10. Experience working in Agile delivery environments, contributing to planning, estimation, and continuous improvement.

Desirable /Advantageous

1. Handson experience with Microsoft Fabric

2. Experience applying infrastructureascode approaches to manage data platform environments (e.g. Terraform, Bicep, or similar).

3. Familiarity with automated data testing frameworks, observability, and monitoring practices for data pipelines and platforms.

4. Handson experience with automated codequality or securityscanning tools used in enterprise CI/CD environments (e.g. static analysis, dependency scanning, vulnerability management).

5. Experience with realtime or streaming data architectures and eventdriven ingestion patterns.

6. Exposure to data governance concepts, including lineage, metadata management, federated governance, or data mesh principles.

7. Experience working in multiregion or multitenant environments, balancing scalability, security, and cost efficiency.

8. Vendoraligned certifications or formal training in cloud platforms, data engineering, or Agile delivery.

9. Prior experience mentoring engineers across multiple teams or contributing to platform standards and engineering playbooks.
