Job summary

Tata Electronics Private Limited is a greenfield venture of the Tata Group, building India’s first AI-enabled semiconductor foundry. The Cutting Tool Engineer will manage tooling activities, optimize cutting tools, and support CNC machining to improve productivity and cut costs.

Responsibilities include tool development with suppliers, fixture evaluation, process optimization, RCA analyses, and training shop-floor staff while ensuring adherence to quality standards and customer requirements.

Qualifications

  • Experience with milling, drilling, boring and slitting in metal cutting.
  • Knowledge of tooling, fixtures and work-holding systems.
  • Familiarity with machining parameters for aluminum alloys is helpful.
  • Proficiency with Siemens NX (UG NX) and AutoCAD is required.
  • Understanding of FANUC controls, tool trials and part prove-out processes.
  • Knowledge of metrology systems such as CMM, Trimos and OMM is desirable.
  • Ability to analyze tooling performance and implement corrective actions.
  • Good problem-solving, communication and supplier coordination skills.

  • Prepare tool drawings, routing sheets, process sheets, SOPs and work instructions.

  • Evaluate tooling concepts and fixtures to reduce cycle time and interference.
  • Support machining operations with tool selection and parameter optimization.
  • Conduct RCA and Why-Why analyses to resolve tooling issues.
  • Lead lean manufacturing initiatives to optimize costs and cycle time.
  • Provide technical training to tool crib personnel and operators.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve production issues.
  • Ensure compliance with quality standards and customer requirements.

Role Purpose:

The Cutting Tool Engineer is responsible for managing tooling activities, developing and optimizing cutting tool solutions, supporting CNC machining processes, and coordinating with suppliers for tool development and delivery. The role focuses on improving productivity, reducing tooling costs, enhancing quality, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives across manufacturing operations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Drive tooling cost reduction, productivity improvement, and quality enhancement projects.
  • Monitor and improve tool life while reducing tooling-related customer complaints.
  • Prepare and maintain tool drawings, routing sheets, process sheets, SOPs, and work instructions.
  • Coordinate with cutting tool suppliers for new tool development, modifications, trials, and delivery follow-up.
  • Evaluate tooling concepts and fixture compatibility to avoid interference and reduce cycle time.
  • Support machining operations through appropriate tool selection, cutting parameter optimization, and process improvements.
  • Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) and Why-Why analysis to resolve tooling and process issues.
  • Implement continuous improvement and lean manufacturing initiatives to optimize manufacturing cost and cycle time.
  • Provide technical training to tool crib personnel and shop floor operators.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure timely resolution of production and process-related issues.
  • Ensure compliance with company quality standards and customer requirements.
Required Knowledge & Skills:
  • Strong knowledge of metal cutting processes such as Milling, Drilling, Boring, and Slitting.
  • Experience in cutting tools, tool holders, machining fixtures, and work-holding systems.
  • Knowledge of machining parameters for Aluminum alloys.
  • Basic knowledge of Siemens NX (UG NX) and AutoCAD.
