Job Purpose
To provide professional psychological counselling and mental wellbeing support to employees and their families, while contributing to the organisations broader employee wellbeing and mental health initiatives.
The role will provide individual and family counselling, support employees and dependents in managing personal and work-related challenges, facilitate mental health awareness and capability-building programmes in collaboration with the L&D team, and provide psychological counselling/support to the hospital as required.
The incumbent will also contribute to creating a supportive workplace culture where employees and their families can seek timely psychological assistance and professional guidance.
Key Responsibilities
1. Employee Counselling & Psychological Support
- Provide confidential one-to-one counselling to employees dealing with personal, emotional, behavioural, interpersonal or work-related concerns.
- Support employees in managing stress, anxiety, burnout, grief, relationship concerns, adjustment difficulties, work-life challenges and other psychosocial concerns.
- Conduct counselling sessions through in-person and virtual modes, wherever required.
- Provide appropriate psychological first-line support and identify cases requiring specialised clinical or psychiatric intervention.
- Facilitate timely referrals to psychiatrists, clinical psychologists, hospitals or other specialised mental health professionals when required.
- Maintain appropriate professional boundaries, confidentiality and ethical standards.
2. Family & Dependent Counselling
- Extend counselling and psychological support to employees spouses, children, parents and other eligible dependents, as per organisational guidelines.
- Address family-related concerns including relationship issues, parenting challenges, adolescent concerns, grief, adjustment difficulties and family stress.
- Support families in dealing with challenges arising from shift-based work, extended working hours, relocation, township life and other aspects associated with the industrial environment.
- Conduct family wellbeing interventions and awareness programmes wherever required.
- Guide employees and families towards appropriate external mental health resources or specialist care when necessary.
3. Mental Health Awareness & Capability Building
- Partner with the Learning & Development (L&D) team to design and conduct mental health and emotional wellbeing awareness programmes.
- Develop and facilitate workshops on topics such as:
- Stress management
- Emotional resilience
- Mental health awareness
- Work-life balance
- Burnout prevention
- Sleep and wellbeing
- Managing anxiety
- Building healthy relationships
- Parenting and family wellbeing
- Substance-use awareness
- Psychological first aid
- Support L&D in developing mental health-related learning calendars, communication material and employee resources.
- Conduct awareness sessions for employees, supervisors, managers and leaders, adapting content to the needs of different workforce segments.
4. Workplace Wellbeing & Organisational Interventions
- Work closely with HRBPs, line managers and L&D to identify recurring psychosocial and behavioural concerns within teams.
- Support interventions relating to workplace stress, interpersonal relationships, conflict, behavioural concerns and employee adjustment.
- Conduct group counselling and facilitated sessions where appropriate.
- Develop targeted wellbeing interventions for employees working in high-pressure, operationally critical and shift-based environments.
- Promote a culture of psychological safety, early help-seeking and openness around mental health.
5. Hospital / Clinical Support
- Provide psychological counselling services to the organisation’s hospital, as and when assigned.
- Support patients and/or their attendants and families with counselling related to emotional distress, adjustment, grief, chronic illness, hospitalisation and other appropriate psychosocial concerns.
- Work in coordination with doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals for cases requiring psychological intervention.
- Support the hospital in developing mental health, counselling and patient/family wellbeing initiatives.
- Participate in multidisciplinary discussions where psychological inputs are required, while maintaining appropriate professional confidentiality.
- Support development of patient and attendant counselling protocols/resources, wherever required.
6. Crisis Intervention & Critical Incident Support
- Provide psychological first aid and immediate emotional support during critical incidents, workplace accidents, fatalities, traumatic events or other distressing situations.
- Work with HR, Safety, Medical Services and relevant business teams during critical incidents.
- Identify individuals requiring urgent psychological or psychiatric intervention and facilitate appropriate referral.
- Support post-incident counselling and employee/family wellbeing interventions.
7. Employee & Community Wellbeing Initiatives
- Contribute to organisation-wide mental health and wellbeing campaigns.
- Design initiatives that improve awareness, reduce stigma and encourage employees and families to seek professional help.
- Participate in employee wellbeing events, health camps, family engagement programmes and township initiatives.
- Develop self-help resources, awareness material and practical wellbeing toolkits for employees and families.
8. Assessment, Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain appropriate and confidential records of counselling sessions and interventions.
- Track utilisation of counselling services and programme participation through appropriate metrics.
- Analyse aggregated and anonymised trends to identify common employee/family wellbeing concerns.
- Share relevant insights with HR/L&D/Medical leadership without compromising individual confidentiality.
- Prepare periodic reports on counselling interventions, awareness programmes, referrals and wellbeing initiatives.
9. Collaboration & Stakeholder Management
The incumbent will work closely with:
- HR / HRBPs – employee wellbeing, case management and workplace interventions
- L&D – mental health awareness, workshops and capability-building programmes
- Medical Services – employee health and specialist referrals
- Hospital – patient, attendant and family counselling
- Safety – critical incident and trauma-related interventions
- Employee Relations – workplace behavioural and interpersonal concerns
- Line Managers – early identification and support of employee wellbeing concerns
- External Mental Health Professionals – specialist referrals and treatment support

Educational Qualification
- Master’s Degree in Psychology / Counselling Psychology / Clinical Psychology from a recognised university.
- Professional certification/training in counselling or psychotherapy will be preferred.
- Additional training in workplace counselling, Employee Assistance Programmes (EAP), trauma counselling, crisis intervention or mental health first aid will be an advantage.
Experience
- 3–7 years of relevant experience in counselling psychology, employee wellbeing, EAP, clinical/hospital counselling or a similar role.
- Experience in industrial/manufacturing organisations, hospitals, large employee wellbeing programmes or institutional settings will be preferred.
- Experience in counselling employees as well as family members/dependents will be an advantage.
- Experience in conducting mental health awareness workshops and group interventions is preferred.

Role Expectations
The Counselling Psychologist will serve as a key psychological wellbeing resource for the organisation, supporting not only employees but also their families and, where required, the hospital.
The role is expected to balance individual counselling, family support, workplace mental health interventions, awareness and capability building, and hospital-based psychological support. The incumbent should proactively build awareness and trust around mental health services while ensuring the highest standards of confidentiality, ethics and professional conduct.
