Job summary

Blue Star Limited, based in Kapurbawdi, Thane, seeks an experienced Thermal Engineer to lead the development of split AC, VRF, and ducted systems. You will design, test, validate, and optimize cooling solutions with emphasis on low-GWP refrigerants and AI-enabled controls.

Qualifications

  • Master's or Doctorate in Thermal Engineering.
  • 3+ years of relevant experience in HVAC Industry.
  • Experience in system simulation and modeling.
  • Knowledge of refrigerants and energy efficiency in HVAC systems.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop cooling systems, dehumidification technologies and heat exchangers.
  • Develop testing protocols and evaluate performance of HVAC systems.

What Your Role Entails

Responsible for driving technology innovation, product strategy, and advanced development initiatives for Split AC, VRF, and Ducted air-conditioning systems. The role encompasses the design, development, testing, validation, and optimization of advanced cooling systems, airflow management technologies, control algorithms, dehumidification solutions, and high-performance heat exchangers. Key focus areas include low-GWP refrigerants, next-generation cooling and heating technologies, energy-efficient system architectures, AI-enabled controls, smart connectivity, and decarbonization solutions. The position involves leading technology scouting, benchmarking, concept development, and collaboration with cross-functional teams, industry partners, and academic institutions to accelerate new product development and enhance product competitiveness. Additionally, the role is responsible for integrating innovative dehumidification and airflow technologies with cooling systems, while supporting long-term technology roadmaps aligned with sustainability goals, regulatory requirements, emerging market trends, and continuous improvements in system performance, reliability, user comfort, and lifecycle cost.

What You’ll Do:
Product Development:
  • Participate in the design and development of new cooling systems, dehumidification technologies and heat exchangers.
  • Conduct research on emerging technologies and industry trends to incorporate innovative solutions.
  • Collaborate with engineering and design teams to create efficient and cost-effective products
Testing and Evaluation:
  • Develop and implement testing protocols for cooling and heating systems.
  • Analyse performance metrics such as efficiency, capacity, reliability, and environmental impact.
  • Identify areas for improvement and recommend design modifications based on test results.
Troubleshooting and Problem Solving:
  • Provide technical support to resolve complex issues related to cooling and heating systems.
  • Diagnose problems, recommend solutions, and oversee the implementation of corrective actions.
Industry Trends and Innovation:
  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in cooling technology and heat exchanger design.
  • Participate in industry conferences, seminars, and forums to exchange knowledge and gain insights.
  • Evaluate and implement new technologies and best practices to enhance product offerings.
Training and Education:
  • Develop training materials and conduct workshops for engineers, technicians, and other professionals.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior team members to ensure knowledge transfer and skill development.
Consultation and Advisory Role:
  • Act as a consultant for projects involving cooling technology and heat exchangers.
  • Offer expertise in system design, energy efficiency optimization, sustainability practices, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with standard making agencies to provide recommendations.
Project Management:
  • Manage projects related to cooling systems and heat exchangers, ensuring adherence to timelines, budgets, and resource allocation.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams to achieve project objectives.
Your success is grounded in
  • Master's or Doctorate in Thermal Engineering
  • 3+ years of relevant experience in HVAC Industry
Technical Expertise:
  • In-depth knowledge of cooling technologies, including air conditioning units, refrigeration systems, heat pumps, and various types of heat exchangers.
  • Understand and apply principles of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer to cooling systems and heat exchanger designs.
  • In-depth knowledge of airflow control systems and defining new algorithms.
  • Understanding of different dehumidification process and technologies
  • System integration of mechanical, electrical, electronic & refrigerant control components.
  • Component selection based on specification requirement
Thermodynamics and Heat Transfer:
  • In-depth knowledge of thermodynamic principles and their application in cooling and heating systems.
  • Deep understanding of heat & mass transfer mechanisms (conduction, convection, radiation) and their role in HVAC systems.
  • Proficiency in calculating and analysing heat loads, heat transfer rates, and thermal performance.
  • Understanding of different dehumidification process and technologies
  • Expertise in fluid flow principles and their application in HVAC systems.
  • Knowledge of fluid dynamics, pressure drops, and flow distribution in heat exchangers and cooling systems.
  • Ability to design and optimize fluid flow paths for efficient system operation
Refrigeration Cycles and Refrigerants:
  • Comprehensive understanding of vapor compression refrigeration cycles.
  • Knowledge of different types of refrigerants, their properties, and environmental impact.
  • Experience in selecting and optimizing refrigerants for specific applications.
System Simulation and Modeling:
  • Proficiency in using simulation and modelling software tools (e.g., CAD, ANSYS Fluent, Open Modelica, HTRI, and Unilab) for HVAC system design, analysis, and performance evaluation.
  • Proficiency in Python programming for data analysis, system modelling, performance prediction, optimization, automation, and development of engineering calculation tools.
  • Ability to create accurate models of cooling systems, airflow systems, and heat exchangers to predict performance and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Experience in conducting computational simulations and numerical analyses to optimize system design, operation, energy efficiency, and reliability.
  • Experience in processing and visualizing experimental and simulation data using Python-based libraries and analytical tools to support engineering decision-making.
Control Systems and Automation:
  • Knowledge of HVAC control systems and their components (sensors, actuators, controllers).
  • Knowledge of automation technologies and building management systems (BMS).
  • Ability to design and implement control strategies, defining new algorithms for efficient and reliable system operation.
Materials and Manufacturing Processes:
  • Familiarity with materials used in HVAC systems and heat exchangers, including metals, plastics, and composites.
  • Comprehensive understanding of heat exchanger and compressor technologies, including their design, performance analysis, and application across HVAC, refrigeration, and heat pump systems.
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes such as welding, brazing, and machining.
  • Knowledge of material properties, corrosion resistance, and durability considerations.
