Tan90 Thermal Solutions is a deep-tech company developing advanced Phase Change Material (PCM)-based cooling systems. We are redefining energy-efficient cold chain and HVAC technologies through proprietary PCM formulations and retrofittable thermal storage systems.
Role Overview
We are seeking a seasoned Refrigeration Engineer to lead the design and manufacturing vertical for blast freezers, cold rooms, and PCM-integrated refrigeration systems. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in industrial refrigeration design, component selection, and performance optimization, with a focus on low-carbon and energy-efficient systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead design, development, and optimization of refrigeration systems (blast freezers, cold rooms, and PCM retrofits).
- Supervise manufacturing, assembly, and field installation of refrigeration units.
- Integrate PCM modules within cooling circuits and ensure compatibility withcompressors, condensers, and evaporators.
- Conduct load calculations, thermodynamic analysis, and system sizing for temperature applications (-40°C to +10°C).
- Collaborate with R&D; for PCM–refrigeration coupling, including defrost cycles, control logic, and PID optimization.
- Develop BOMs, design documentation, and performance validation protocols.
- Work closely with vendors and OEMs (compressors, expansion valves, controllers, etc.)for cost and quality optimization.
- Train and guide junior engineers, technicians, and project teams in refrigeration best practices.
- Interface with customers for technical validation, retrofitting feasibility, and post-installation optimization.
Preferred Background
6–12 years of experience in refrigeration system design and project execution. Prior experience in companies like Blue Star, Voltas, Carrier, Rinac, Elanpro, or other refrigeration OEMs preferred. Exposure to COn / hydrocarbon / glycol systems is an advantage. Knowledge of both air-cooled and water-cooled condensing units
Technical Skills & Tools
- Proficiency in refrigeration system design and psychrometric calculations. Strong grasp of thermodynamics, heat transfer, and compressor system design. Hands-on experience with:
- Software tools: AutoCAD, SolidWorks, CoolPack, HTRI, REFPROP, EES, and HVAC load calculation tools.
- Simulation and control tools: PLC/PID control systems, LabVIEW, or similar.
- Electrical and instrumentation basics for compressor and fan motor integration.
Education
B.E. / B.Tech / M.Tech in Mechanical, Refrigeration & Air Conditioning, orThermal Engineering.
What We Offer
- Opportunity to lead a vertical in a fast-scaling deep-tech startup. Work at the intersection of refrigeration and thermal energy storage innovation. Exposure to diverse projects across logistics, cold chain, HVAC, and industrial cooling. Competitive compensation with ESOP options for leadership roles.
