Job summary

Drive IT Technologies is seeking a Practice Area Compute & Backup Engineer to support hyper-converged infrastructure (Cisco HyperFlex, Nutanix) and enterprise backup platforms (Quest). You will monitor cluster health, backups, and runbooks, while handling first-level ITSM and SIEM operations.

The role requires 3–10 years of experience, shift-based full-time work in a 24x7 environment, and collaboration with L3 engineers and team leads to ensure RPO/RTO compliance and incident resolution.

Qualifications

• 3–10 years of experience in compute & backup engineering.
• Experience with hyper-converged infrastructure (Cisco HyperFlex, Nutanix) and Quest data protection suites.
• Experience with ITSM platforms (Everest) and ArcSight SIEM operations.
• Familiarity with incident/change/problem/SLA management per ITIL.
• Scripting basics for monitoring/reporting (PowerShell/Python).

Responsibilities

• Monitor hyper-converged cluster health and storage utilization.
• Manage backup/restore jobs using Quest platforms and troubleshoot failures.
• Perform VM provisioning, snapshots, and storage monitoring.
• Handle L2 tickets for backup failures and restore requests.
• Patch firmware on HCI nodes and maintain retention policies.
• Document incidents, draft RCAs, and maintain runbooks.
• Onboard log sources into ArcSight and verify data parsing.
• Escalate complex incidents to L3 with diagnostics.

Practice Area Compute & Backup Engineer

Reporting To L3 Compute & Backup Engineer / Team Lead Employment Type Full-Time, Shift-based (24x7 operations support)

Summary

Provides day-to-day operational support for hyper-converged infrastructure (Cisco HyperFlex, Nutanix) and enterprise backup/recovery platforms (Quest). Responsible for monitoring cluster and backup job health, routine maintenance and first-level incident resolution. Provides first-level support for the ITSM platform (Everest) administration and ArcSight SIEM operations, covering ticket/workflow management, log source onboarding, alert monitoring and reporting.

Role & responsibilities

• Monitor hyper-converged cluster health (Cisco HyperFlex HX Connect, Nutanix Prism Element/Central) - node status, storage utilization, and system alerts.
• Manage and monitor daily backup and restore jobs on Quest backup platforms (e.g., NetVault Backup, Rapid Recovery, QoreStor); troubleshoot failed jobs.
• Perform VM provisioning, snapshot management, and storage pool/datastore monitoring.
• Handle L2 tickets for backup job failures, restore requests, and storage capacity alerts.
• Perform routine patching and firmware updates on HCI nodes under L3 guidance
• Maintain backup retention policies and verify RPO/RTO compliance for scheduled jobs.
• Document incidents, draft RCA notes, and maintain SOPs and runbooks.
• Escalate node failures, cluster degradation, or backup infrastructure issues to L3 with diagnostic data.
• Administer the Everest ITSM tool - incident, change and problem module configuration, workflow updates, and user/group management
• Generate and maintain ITSM reports, SLA dashboards, and support CMDB data hygiene activities.
• Monitor the ArcSight ESM/Logger console for security alerts; perform first/second-level triage and initial correlation review.
• Onboard new log sources and connectors into ArcSight, and verify data parsing and flow.
• Handle L2 tickets for ITSM tool issues (access requests, workflow errors, notification failures) and SIEM connector health.
• Support use-case tuning requests and false-positive reduction efforts under L3 guidance.
• Maintain SOPs, knowledge base articles, and prepare shift handover reports.
• Escalate complex correlation rule issues, ArcSight infrastructure problems, or major ITSM outages to L3.

Technical Skills

• Cisco HyperFlex (HX Connect, basic UCS Manager operations)
• Nutanix AOS, AHV, Prism Element and Prism Central
• Quest data protection suite - NetVault Backup / Rapid Recovery / QoreStor (or equivalent)
• VM lifecycle management (VMware vSphere / AHV), snapshot and clone operations
• Storage fundamentals - RAID, replication, deduplication and compression concepts
• Basic scripting for job monitoring and reporting (PowerShell/Python) is an advantage
• Everest ITSM (or equivalent ITSM suite) - incident/change/problem/CMDB modules and workflow configuration
• ArcSight ESM/Logger/Connector administration and basic correlation rule review
• ITIL process fundamentals - Incident, Change, Problem and SLA management
• Basic reporting/scripting (SQL, Crystal Reports or equivalent)
