Job summary

Trelleborg India Private Limited, part of Trelleborg Sealing Solutions, Bengaluru, seeks a Commercial & Sourcing Engineer to build a robust supplier base for precision CNC-turned components.

You will own vendor qualification, PPAP/APQP, and lead cost negotiations, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives with a strong ISO 9001 focus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related technical field preferred.
• 5+ years in vendor development, strategic sourcing, or procurement within manufacturing/automotive setting.
• Deep understanding of CNC turning processes, tooling, and materials.
• Proficiency in interpreting technical drawings, GD&T, and quality standards (PPAP/APQP, ISO 9001).

Responsibilities

• Identify potential suppliers through market research and industry networking.
• Evaluate vendor capabilities based on machinery, quality systems, capacity and financial stability.
• Collaborate with engineering to interpret drawings and GD&T specs; define process sequences.
• Lead RFQ/RFP processes; negotiate pricing, payment terms, delivery schedules, and quality.
• Establish and monitor KPIs; conduct vendor audits and drive corrective actions (8D).

We are seeking a skilled Commercial & Sourcing Engineering to join our team. The role is responsible for identifying, evaluating, and developing a robust supply base for high-quality, precision CNC-turned components. This role involves managing the full vendor lifecycle, from initial sourcing and technical assessment to performance monitoring and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

• Supplier identification and evaluation:
  • Identify potential suppliers of precision CNC-turned parts through market research and industry networking.
  • Conduct technical, quality, and commercial assessments to qualify and onboard new vendors.
  • Evaluate vendor capabilities based on machinery, quality systems, capacity, and financial stability.
• Technical collaboration and development:
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to interpret technical drawings, Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing specifications, and material requirements.
  • Support vendors in defining the manufacturing process sequence and optimizing cycle times.
  • Drive new product development and first-article approval (PPAP/APQP) processes with vendors.
  • Guide vendors in enhancing their processes and implementing lean manufacturing practices.
• Sourcing and negotiation:
  • Prepare and analyze RFQs/RFPs, ensuring cost breakdowns are comprehensive and accurate.
  • Lead negotiations with vendors on pricing, payment terms, delivery schedules, and quality standards.
• Vendor performance and management:
  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for vendor quality, delivery, and responsiveness.
  • Conduct regular vendor audits and performance reviews to ensure compliance and identify areas for improvement.
  • Drive corrective actions (8D) to resolve quality and delivery issues.
  • Mitigate supply chain risks by ensuring alternate sourcing is in place for critical components.
• Documentation and reporting:
  • Maintain and update all vendor records, documentation, and sourcing information in the ERP system.

Generate and present management information reports (MIS) on vendor performance, cost savings, and project status.

Education & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, Production Engineering, or a related technical field is preferred.
• 5+ years in vendor development, strategic sourcing, or procurement within a manufacturing or automotive setting. Experience with machined parts is mandatory.
• Deep understanding of CNC Turning processes, tooling, and materials.
• Proficiency in interpreting technical drawings, blueprints, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
• Familiarity with quality management systems (ISO 9001) and automotive standards (PPAP, APQP).
