Job summary

Balark Metals seeks an experienced CNC Sliding Headstock Programmer & Setter who can independently develop CNC programs, set up machines, prove out components and achieve tight tolerances.

The role requires hands-on expertise with Swiss-type/sliding headstock machines, strong knowledge of Fanuc controls and G-code, and a proven track record in high-precision production environments.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5–10+ years in CNC Sliding Headstock/Swiss-type machining.
• Experience in precision component manufacturing is advantageous.
• ITI/Diploma in Mechanical or related field required.

Responsibilities

• Develop, modify and optimize CNC programs for sliding headstock machines.
• Independently perform machine setting, tool setting, offset setting and workholding setup.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, tolerances and specifications.
• Select cutting tools, inserts, guide bushes, collets and machining parameters.
• Set and operate Swiss-type/sliding headstock CNC machines for precision components.
• Conduct first-piece inspection and adjust program/offsets as needed.
• Optimize cutting speed, feed, depth of cut and cycle time for productivity.
• Troubleshoot dimensional variations, tool wear and surface finish issues.
• Coordinate with Quality and Production to resolve process and quality issues.
• Maintain program records, tool lists and setup sheets.

Job Purpose

We are looking for an experienced CNC Sliding Headstock Machine Programmer & Setter capableofindependently handling CNC sliding headstock machines from program development through machinesetting, prove-out and production. The candidate will be responsible for achieving productivity,dimensional accuracy, quality and efficient machine utilization.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, modify and optimize CNC programs for sliding headstock machines.


• Independently perform machine setting, tool setting, offset setting and workholding setup.


• Read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, machining tolerances and specifications.


• Select appropriate cutting tools, inserts, guide bushes, collets and machining parameters.


• Set and operate Swiss-type / sliding headstock CNC machines for precision components.


• Conduct first-piece inspection and make necessary program/offset corrections.


• Optimize cutting speed, feed, depth of cut and cycle time to improve productivity.


• Troubleshoot machining problems such as dimensional variation, tool wear, burrs, chatter andsurface-finish issues.


• Coordinate with Quality and Production teams to resolve process and quality issues.


• Maintain program records, tool lists, setup sheets and process documentation.


• Ensure safe operation of machines and compliance with company procedures.


• Train and guide CNC operators/setters when required.


• Support continuous improvement, rejection reduction and cycle-time optimization.

Required Technical Skills

• Strong knowledge of CNC Sliding Headstock / Swiss-type machining.


• Good knowledge of Fanuc CNC controls and G-code/M-code programming.


• Experience with turning, drilling, threading, grooving, milling and cross/live-tool operations.


• Ability to work with brass, copper, steel, stainless steel and other engineering materials.


• Good understanding of cutting tools, tool geometry, inserts and tooling selection.


• Ability to independently set up machines and prove out new components.


• Knowledge of inspection instruments such as Vernier, Micrometer, Bore Gauge, Thread Gaugesand other precision measuring instruments.


• Ability to read complex engineering drawings and understand tolerances.

Experience & Qualification

• Experience: Preferably 510+ years in CNC Sliding Headstock / Swiss-type machining.


• Experience in precision component manufacturing will be an advantage.


• ITI / Diploma in Mechanical, Production or related engineering field preferred.


• Strong practical knowledge and proven programming/set-up experience may be considered inlieu of formal qualification.
