Role Overview
We are seeking a skilled Citrix Administrator / Citrix Engineer (L1/L2) to join our infrastructure and end-user computing team. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops (CVAD), XenApp/XenDesktop, Citrix Workspace, StoreFront, Delivery Controllers, Citrix Studio and Citrix Director.
The candidate will be responsible for day-to-day administration, monitoring, troubleshooting and support of Citrix environments. The role requires strong troubleshooting skills, an understanding of VDI infrastructure and the ability to resolve incidents and service requests within defined SLAs.
The position involves working closely with L3 teams, Windows administrators, network teams, application teams and other infrastructure teams to ensure high availability and reliable delivery of virtual applications and desktops to end users.
Key Responsibilities
Citrix Administration & Support
- Administer and support Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops (CVAD) environments.
- Perform day-to-day administration of Citrix XenApp/XenDesktop environments.
- Manage Citrix Delivery Controllers, StoreFront servers, Citrix Studio and Citrix Director.
- Monitor Citrix infrastructure and proactively identify performance and availability issues.
- Troubleshoot application and desktop launch failures.
- Support user access, session connectivity and authentication-related issues.
- Manage Citrix published applications and virtual desktops.
- Assist with application publishing, unpublishing and modification.
- Manage delivery groups, machine catalogs and user assignments.
- Support Citrix policies and user profile configurations.
- Troubleshoot ICA/HDX connectivity and session-related issues.
Incident & Problem Management
- Handle L1/L2 Citrix incidents and service requests.
- Analyze and resolve issues related to Citrix sessions, applications, desktops and user connectivity.
- Troubleshoot login failures, session disconnects, slow sessions and application launch issues.
- Investigate issues related to Citrix StoreFront and Delivery Controllers.
- Perform root-cause analysis for recurring Citrix incidents.
- Escalate complex issues to L3/engineering teams with appropriate troubleshooting details.
- Follow ITIL-based incident, problem and change management processes.
- Ensure incidents and requests are resolved within agreed SLA/KPI timelines.
Citrix Workspace & StoreFront
- Administer and troubleshoot Citrix StoreFront.
- Support Citrix Workspace app installation and configuration.
- Troubleshoot Workspace authentication and application enumeration issues.
- Support internal and external user access to Citrix resources.
- Troubleshoot StoreFront and Gateway-related connectivity issues.
- Assist with configuration and troubleshooting of Citrix Receiver/Workspace components.
Monitoring & Performance Management
- Monitor Citrix infrastructure using Citrix Director and other monitoring tools.
- Analyze user sessions, logon duration and resource utilization.
- Identify performance bottlenecks affecting applications or virtual desktops.
- Monitor server availability, session capacity and machine status.
- Perform basic performance troubleshooting involving CPU, memory, disk and network resources.
- Proactively identify potential service-impacting issues.
Windows & Infrastructure Support
- Work with Windows Server environments supporting Citrix infrastructure.
- Perform basic troubleshooting of Windows services, event logs and system resources.
- Coordinate with Active Directory, DNS, DHCP and networking teams when required.
- Troubleshoot authentication and access issues involving Active Directory.
- Support Group Policy and Citrix policy-related issues.
- Work with application teams for application compatibility and publishing issues.
Change & Maintenance Activities
- Perform standard Citrix configuration changes according to approved change procedures.
- Assist with Citrix environment upgrades, patching and maintenance.
- Support server maintenance and reboot activities.
- Participate in Citrix infrastructure migration and upgrade projects.
- Validate Citrix services following planned maintenance activities.
- Maintain appropriate documentation for configuration and operational procedures.
Required Technical Skills
Must-Have Skills
- Strong hands-on experience with Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops (CVAD).
- Experience with Citrix XenApp / XenDesktop.
- Experience administering Citrix Delivery Controllers.
- Hands-on knowledge of Citrix StoreFront.
- Experience with Citrix Studio and Citrix Director.
- Good understanding of Citrix policies.
- Knowledge of ICA/HDX protocols and Citrix session troubleshooting.
- Experience with Citrix Workspace App.
- Strong troubleshooting and incident-management skills.
- Good knowledge of Windows Server administration.
- Working knowledge of Active Directory and Group Policy.
Good-to-Have Skills
- Citrix ADC / NetScaler knowledge.
- Citrix Gateway configuration and troubleshooting.
- VMware or other virtualization technologies.
- Microsoft Azure / cloud-based VDI environments.
- PowerShell scripting.
- Citrix profile management technologies.
- FSLogix or other profile management solutions.
- Experience with monitoring and ticketing tools.
- Knowledge of ITIL processes.
Educational Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or a related discipline.
- Relevant Citrix certifications are an advantage.
Experience Required
- 38 years of experience in Citrix administration/support.
- Strong hands-on experience in L1/L2 Citrix support.
- Experience working in an enterprise infrastructure or managed-services environment is preferred.
- Experience supporting production Citrix/VDI environments.
- Candidates should be comfortable working in a 24x7 support environment, if required.
