Job summary

Tata AutoComp in India seeks a CTO for Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) to shape the technology strategy, drive R&D, and lead the engineering roadmap across grid-scale, commercial storage, and mobility applications.

You will build scalable, safe, and cost-efficient energy storage solutions, localize global best practices for the Indian market, oversee manufacturing readiness, partnerships, and compliance with UL/IEC/BIS standards, and lead a high-performance engineering team.

Responsibilities

• Define and execute technology strategy for BESS across grid-scale, commercial and mobility storage.
• Lead design and development of BESS components: battery packs/modules, PCS, BMS, energy management software.
• Drive cost optimization, performance improvements, and lifecycle efficiency of products.
• Localization of global best practices for Indian applications and conditions.
• Build partnerships with EPC players, utilities, renewable developers, and technology vendors.
• Work with manufacturing teams to establish scalable production for BESS systems.
• Lead advanced R&D initiatives (next-gen chemistries, solid-state, rapid charging) and establish a center of excellence.

Job description

Role Overview

The CTO BESS will lead the end-to-end technology strategy, product development, and innovation roadmap for the Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) business. This role is responsible for building scalable, safe, and cost-effective energy storage solutions aligned with Indias fast-evolving EV and grid energy ecosystem.

The incumbent will drive R&D, engineering, and technology partnerships while ensuring global best practices from Gotion are effectively localized for Indian market needs.

Key Responsibilities

1. Technology Strategy & Vision

Define and execute the long-term technology roadmap for BESS solutions (grid-scale, commercial & industrial, mobility-integrated storage).

2. Product Development & Engineering

Lead design and development of BESS products including: Battery packs & modules

• Power conversion systems (PCS)
• Thermal management systems
• Battery Management Systems (BMS)
• Energy Management Software

Ensure products meet global standards (UL, IEC, BIS, AIS, etc.).

Drive cost optimization, performance improvement, and lifecycle efficiency.

3. Technology Localization & Partnerships

Leverage Gotion's global technology and adapt it for Indian applications and conditions.

Build strategic partnerships with: EPC players

• Utilities & renewable developers
• Technology vendors and suppliers

4. Manufacturing & Scalability

Work closely with manufacturing teams to establish scalable production for BESS systems.

5. Innovation & R&D

Lead advanced R&D initiatives (next-gen chemistries, solid-state, rapid charging, etc.).

Build a strong innovation pipeline and technical center of excellence.

6. Compliance, Safety & Sustainability

Establish robust safety protocols for battery systems (thermal runaway, fire safety).

Ensure compliance with Indian and international regulatory frameworks.

7. Team Leadership

Build and lead a high-performance engineering and R&D team.
