Job summary

SYSTRA India is seeking a Chief Project Director with deep civil engineering and railway project leadership for major infrastructure bids. You will provide strategic direction, governance, and oversight across large-scale rail and highway projects, ensuring technical and financial objectives are met.

The role requires senior-level experience in India’s railway sector, direct interaction with government authorities, and a track record of delivering complex projects on time and within budget.

Qualifications

• Graduate Degree in Civil Engineering with at least 20 years of construction industry experience including Railway/Highway projects.
• Minimum 10 years in Railway/linear projects and at least 3 years in Chief/Senior Project Director or equivalent role.
• Alternative: 5+ years in SAG or 7+ years in SG & above in Civil Engineering within Indian Railways/RITES/IRCON/RVNL or equivalent bodies.

Responsibilities

• Provide overarching strategic direction, vision, and governance for the entire PGMS team and execution agencies.
• Monitor overall project cash flows, approve major financial disbursements, and oversee cost-control measures.
• Evaluate and authorize major contract variations, escalations, claims, and time extension (EOT) requests.
• Maintain direct communication lines with top-tier officials in the Ministry of Railways, Railway Board, and State Government.
• Oversee the final, high-level integration testing and trial runs of rolling stock, signaling, and traction systems.
• Lead the preparation, documentation, and coordination required for the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) or Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) inspections.

Currently, we are bidding for Railway projects across India. The position of Chief Project Director is the key position in these BIDs.

Missions/Main Duties

Profile/Skills

• He/She should have Graduate Degree in Civil Engineering with minimum of 20 years’ experience in construction industry including Railway / Highway Projects.
• He/She should have minimum experience of 10 years in Railway/linear projects and worked as Chief/ senior project director or equivalent position for a minimum of 3 years.

OR

• At least 5 years’ experience in SAG or equivalent Grade or above in Civil Engineering or at least 7 years’ service in SG & above in Civil Engineering Department or in equivalent grade in Indian Railways/RITES/ IRCON/RVNL or equivalent grades in Konkan Railway/ MRVC/DFCCIL/any JVs/SPVs with Ministry of Railways/State govt, any Metro Rail Corporation either individually or combined.
