Job Description: Junior Mechanical Procurement Engineer / Buyer

Job Title: Junior Mechanical Procurement Engineer / Buyer Location: Rajkot, Gujarat, India Employment Type: Full-time Reporting To: Procurement Manager / General Management

Position Overview

Based in the industrial manufacturing hub of Rajkot-renowned for casting, CNC machining, forging, and precision engineering, you will manage the end-to-end procurement cycle for mechanical parts and assemblies. Your role involves identifying qualified local vendors, negotiating commercial terms, evaluating technical quotes, and ensuring timely deliveries to meet production schedules.

Key Responsibilities

1. Sourcing & Supplier Panel Management

• Identify and map reliable local suppliers and machine shops (CNC milling/turning, casting, sheet metal fabrication, forging, surface treatments).


• Conduct initial vendor outreach and perform on-site capability assessments to evaluate quality standards, workshop capacity, and machinery.


• Build and maintain an organized, up-to-date database of approved suppliers.

2. RFQ Management, Costing & Commercial Negotiation

• Review technical drawings (2D/3D), Bill of Materials (BOM), and mechanical specifications.


• Float Requests for Quotation (RFQs) to shortlisted suppliers.


• Perform detailed techno-commercial evaluations comparing tooling costs, piece prices, Minimum Order Quantities (MOQ), and payment terms.


• Negotiate pricing, production lead times, and delivery terms (Incoterms) to optimize overall procurement costs.

3. Supplier Evaluation & Decision Support

• Build comprehensive comparison matrices (Quality, Cost, Delivery, Technical feasibility).


• Present structured recommendations and sourcing dossiers to management for vendor award decisions.

4. Order Expediting & Supply Chain Execution

• Supervise the production and dispatch of First Article Inspections (FAI) and prototype samples until quality sign-off.


• Issue Purchase Orders (POs) and actively expedite open orders to prevent manufacturing bottlenecks.


• Coordinate logistics and domestic dispatch until parts are safely received and inspected at the facility.


• Interface with vendors to resolve non-conformances, returns, or quality rejections, driving corrective action plans.

Candidate Profile

Education & Experience:

• Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, or Industrial Engineering (B.E. / B.Tech).


• Experience: Entry-level / Fresher accepted with relevant internship experience in mechanical manufacturing, or 1-2 years of experience in technical purchasing or vendor development.

Technical Skills:

• Strong proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) and standard ISO tolerances.


• Working knowledge of manufacturing processes (machining, sand/die casting, heat treatment, sheet metal).


• Proficiency in MS Excel (cost breakdown analysis, pivot tables) and familiarity with ERP systems (SAP, Tally, or similar).

Soft Skills:

• Confident communication and solid negotiation skills.


• Strong organizational ability, attention to detail, and analytical mindset.


• Willingness to spend significant time on the shop floor visiting local workshops and suppliers.

Languages:

• English: Professional working proficiency (written and spoken) for reporting to management and cross-border communication.


• Gujarati & Hindi: Fluent / Native proficiency required for day-to-day coordination and negotiations with local machine shops in Rajkot.
