Job summary

Larsen & Toubro is seeking a mechanical design engineer in Bengaluru to develop product and system-level mechanical architectures for solar inverters, BESS containers, and EV charging solutions.

You will design enclosures, perform thermal and structural analyses, and ensure integration with electrical and control systems. The role emphasizes manufacturability, testing, and compliance with industry standards.

Qualifications

• Design product and system-level mechanical architecture for solar inverters, EV chargers, and electrolysers.
• Develop enclosures, cabinets, skids, and container layouts with robust protection.
• Create thermal and structural designs that meet environmental constraints.
• Coordinate with electrical/control teams on layout, clearances, and EMI shielding.

Responsibilities

• Design mechanical architecture and enclosures for solar inverters, EV chargers, and power cabinets.
• Perform thermal management, CFD analyses, and optimize cooling pathways.
• Conduct static/dynamic structural analyses for loads and seismic conditions.
• Ensure mechanical integration with electrical, control, and EMI considerations.
• Drive manufacturability, assembly, and cost-down initiatives (DFM/DFA).
• Support testing, validation, and certification to IEC/UL/ISO standards.

• Mechanical Architecture & Enclosure DesignDesign product and system-level mechanical architecture for:Solar inverters (string & central)PCS & BESS containersEV chargers (AC/DC)Electrolysers & power supply cabinetsDevelop enclosures, cabinets, skids, and container layouts.Ensure IP protection, corrosion resistance, and environmental robustness.
• Thermal & Cooling DesignDesign thermal management solutions:Forced air coolingLiquid cooling (cold plates, heat exchangers)Perform thermal simulations (CFD) and support validation.Optimize airflow paths, heat sink design, and component placement.
• Structural & Mechanical AnalysisPerform structural analysis for:Static & dynamic loadsTransportation & seismic conditionsEnsure compliance with wind, seismic, and shock/vibration requirements.Design for safe lifting, handling, and installation.
• Integration with Electrical & Control SystemsCoordinate with electrical and control teams on:Component placement & clearancesCable routing and bending radiusEMI shielding & segregationEnsure creepage, clearance, and safety requirements are mechanically supported.
• DFM, DFA & IndustrializationDesign for manufacturability, assembly, and serviceability.Select materials and finishes considering cost, durability, and environment.Support prototype builds, NPI, and production ramp-up.Drive cost reduction and weight optimization initiatives.
