A Vikram Solar Group Company in Kolkata seeks a Prototype Engineering Manager – Mechanical (BESS Plant) to lead the mechanical team in designing, fabricating, and validating enclosures and thermal systems for utility-scale BESS.

You will own mechanical architecture for containers, guide prototyping, manage vendors, and collaborate with Electrical and BMS teams to ensure integrated, safe, and scalable energy storage solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechatronics.
• 8–12 years in mechanical engineering with 3+ years in leadership.
• Experience in grid-scale energy storage, EV battery pack integration, or heavy industrial enclosures.

Responsibilities

• Team Leadership: Manage a mechanical prototype engineering team across multiple BESS projects.
• Design Ownership: Oversee mechanical architecture of BESS containers, modular racking, and frames.
• Thermal Strategy: Approve cooling methods to optimize cell life and safety.
• Prototyping & Vendor Management: Direct fabrication of proof‑of‑concepts and manage external shops.
• Validation Oversight: Sign off on vibration, IP, and environmental tests.
• Cross‑Functional Alignment: Work with Electrical and BMS teams for integrated systems.

Prototype Engineering Manager – Mechanical (BESS Plant)

Lead the mechanical engineering team in designing, fabricating, and validating structural enclosures and thermal systems for utility-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). This role combines technical project management with hands‑on prototyping leadership.

Required Qualifications & Experience

• Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechatronics.
• Experience Duration: 8 to 12 years of mechanical engineering experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership or people‑management role.
• Industry Background: Proven experience in grid‑scale energy storage, EV battery pack integration, or heavy industrial containerized enclosures.

Key Responsibilities

• Team Leadership: Manage a team of mechanical prototype engineers and technicians; allocate resources across multiple BESS projects.
• Design Ownership: Oversee the mechanical architecture of BESS containers, modular racking, and structural frames.
• Thermal Strategy: Approve cooling methodologies (liquid cooling loops or HVAC airflow) to optimize cell life and safety.
• Prototyping & Vendor Management: Direct the fabrication of physical proof‑of‑concepts; manage external machine shops and material vendors.
• Validation Oversight: Sign off on mechanical validation plans, including vibration, ingress protection (IP), and environmental stress testing.
• Cross‑Functional Alignment: Collaborate with Electrical and BMS managers to ensure seamless physical and thermal systems integration.

Technical Skills

• CAD/PLM: Expert knowledge of SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor, or Creo, alongside Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems.
• Simulation Tools: Capability to review and guide ANSYS Fluent, Star‑CCM+, or COMSOL thermal/CFD analyses.
• Manufacturing: Deep knowledge of sheet metal fabrication, casting, welding techniques, and GD&T standards.
• Standards: Thorough understanding of UL 9540, NFPA 855, and IEC 62933 compliance criteria.
