Job summary

Sopra Steria is seeking an experienced API Management consultant to design, deploy, and manage Axway API gateways and policies for diverse clients in a fast-paced consulting environment.

You will work with REST/SOAP integrations, implement OAuth2/JWT security, and participate in agile delivery, environment promotions, and runbooks while collaborating with onshore/offshore teams.

Qualifications

• 3-5 years of total IT experience with 3+ years in Axway API Management.
• Strong understanding of API security standards (OAuth2, OpenID Connect, SAML, mTLS).
• Hands-on experience with REST, SOAP, JSON, XML, XSLT and messaging (JMS, MQ).
• Good hold in CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation (Jenkins, Git, Maven/Gradle).

Responsibilities

Job Description

Job description – Axway API Management

1. Design, configure, and deploy API proxies, policies, and virtual APIs using Axway Amplify API Gateway and API Manager
2. Develop and manage API lifecycle processes - design, publishing, versioning, deprecation, and retirement
3. Implement security policies including OAuth2, JWT, API key management, rate limiting, and threat protection
4. Configure and troubleshoot API Gateway filters, circuits, and policy chains
5. Collaborate with architects and developers to integrate APIs with backend systems using REST, SOAP, JMS, and MQ
6. Support API onboarding for internal and external consumers, including partner integrations
7. Monitor API performance, conduct root cause analysis, and resolve production incidents (L2/L3 support)
8. Participate in code reviews, environment promotions (DEV -> SIT -> UAT -> PROD), and release management
9. Prepare technical documentation, API specifications (OpenAPI/Swagger), and runbooks
10. Work within Agile/Scrum delivery models and coordinate with onshore/offshore and client stakeholders

Required Skills & Experience

1. 3-5 years of total IT experience, with 3+ years dedicated to Axway API Management (API Gateway, API Manager, API Portal)
2. Strong understanding of API security standards (OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, SAML, mTLS)
3. Hands-on experience with REST, SOAP, JSON, XML, XSLT, and messaging protocols (JMS, MQ)
4. Good hold in CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation (Jenkins, Git, Maven/Gradle)
5. Working knowledge of Linux/Unix environments and scripting (Shell/Groovy/Python - good to have)
6. Understanding of API governance, versioning strategies, and API monetization concepts
7. Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP) and containerization (Docker/Kubernetes) is a plus
8. Good to have: exposure to IBM DataPower, MuleSoft, or other API Gateway platforms
9. Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to work directly with client teams

1. Strong verbal and written communication for client-facing consulting engagements
2. Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven consulting environment
3. Team collaboration and mentoring capability for junior consultants
