Job summary

Sopra Steria in Chennai is seeking an experienced API Management specialist to design, deploy, and govern Axway Amplify-based API assets. You will implement robust security, monitor performance, and collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams across onshore and offshore delivery models.

The role requires 8–10 years IT experience with strong API governance, REST/SOAP proficiency, and hands-on experience in CI/CD, cloud, and containerization. Prior knowledge of IBM DataPower or MuleSoft is a plus.

Qualifications

• 8–10 years total IT experience with 8+ years in Axway API Management.
• Strong knowledge of API security standards (OAuth2, OpenID Connect, SAML, mTLS).
• Hands-on with REST, SOAP, JSON, XML, XSLT and messaging (JMS, MQ).
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation (Jenkins, Git, Maven/Gradle).
• Linux/Unix basics; scripting a plus (Shell/Groovy/Python).
• Understanding of API governance, versioning, and monetization concepts.

Responsibilities

Job Description

• Design, configure, and deploy API proxies, policies, and virtual APIs using Axway Amplify API Gateway and API Manager
• Develop and manage API lifecycle processes — design, publishing, versioning, deprecation, and retirement
• Implement security policies including OAuth2, JWT, API key management, rate limiting, and threat protection
• Configure and troubleshoot API Gateway filters, circuits, and policy chains
• Collaborate with architects and developers to integrate APIs with backend systems using REST, SOAP, JMS, and MQ
• Support API onboarding for internal and external consumers, including partner integrations
• Monitor API performance, conduct root cause analysis, and resolve production incidents (L2/L3 support)
• Prepare technical documentation, API specifications (OpenAPI/Swagger), and runbooks
• Work within Agile/Scrum delivery models and coordinate with onshore/offshore and client stakeholders

Required Skills & Experience

• 8 - 10 years of total IT experience, with 8+ years dedicated to Axway API Management (API Gateway, API Manager, API Portal)
• Strong understanding of API security standards (OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, SAML, mTLS)
• Hands-on experience with REST, SOAP, JSON, XML, XSLT, and messaging protocols (JMS, MQ)
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation (Jenkins, Git, Maven/Gradle)
• Working knowledge of Linux/Unix environments and scripting (Shell/Groovy/Python — good to have)
• Understanding of API governance, versioning strategies, and API monetization concepts
• Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP) and containerization (Docker/Kubernetes) is a plus
• Good to have: exposure to IBM DataPower, MuleSoft, or other API Gateway platforms
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to work directly with client teams

• Strong verbal and written communication for client-facing consulting engagements
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven consulting environment
• Team collaboration and mentoring capability for junior consultants
