Job summary

Actalent Services seeks a Mechanical/Automotive engineer with 2–5 years of experience in interior trim design. You will design plastics components, create CATIA V5 models and drawings, and ensure DFx compliance. Collaboration with cross-functional teams and suppliers is essential for on-time delivery and alignment with NPI milestones.

The role requires knowledge of GD&T, tolerance stack-up, and injection molding processes, with focus on packaging and manufacturing feasibility across global teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelors / Masters in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or equivalent.
• 2–5 years of relevant experience in automotive plastic trim design, preferably door trims.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop interior trim components (plastics) from concept through production.
• Create CAD models, assemblies, and 2D drawings using CATIA V5.
• Ensure designs meet packaging, DFM, DFA and drawing standards.
• Collaborate with Design & Release Engineers and suppliers on technical decisions.
• Establish manufacturability and service feasibility; monitor timelines and program targets.

Job description

Role & responsibilities

• Conversant with Vehicle Architecture, Vehicle Aggregate Groups, Sub-Groups, Systems and Sub-Systems.
• Expertise in Interior Trims Design and Development Plastic Interior Trims, Headliner and Soft Trim
• Ability to ground-up design of all trims (Plastics) components through detailed design and delivery into production.
• Functional expertise in design and development of interior trims aggregates and to take technical decisions with Design & Release Engineers and suppliers as required.
• Independently create CAD models, assemblies, and 2D drawings using CATIA V5.
• Responsible for CAD models and associated drawings of components
• Ensure all designs meet packaging, DFM (Design for Manufacturing), DFA (Design for Assembly), and design rule requirements.
• Establish manufacturing, assembly and service feasibility.
• Optimize concepts and designs.
• Collaborate closely with cross functional team to resolve technical issues.
• Engage in regular communication with global teams for design alignment and status reporting.
• Conversant with New Product Introduction process, its milestones and delivery success criteria for engineering.
• Monitor timelines and deliverables to ensure program targets (cost, weight, quality, timing) are met.

Preferred candidate profile

• Domain Knowledge:
  Education Qualification: Bachelors / Master's degree in Mechanical engineering, Automotive Engineering, or equivalent.
  Years of Experience: 2 to 5 years of relevant experience in automotive plastic trim design (preferably door trims).
  

Technical Skills

• Strong expertise in CATIA V5, Teamcenter & Vismockup is a plus.
• Knowledge of plastic materials and injection molding processes.
• Understanding of GD&T, tolerance stack-up, and drawing standards.
