Job Title: Deputy Manager – Mining Operations

Job Purpose:
To fulfil the statutory responsibilities of Mine Manager for mechanized open-cast limestone mining operations at Govlani Mines and support the mining leadership team in achieving safe, efficient and sustainable mining operations. The role is responsible for limestone production, mine planning, safety, statutory compliance, environmental management, development activities and coordination with internal and external stakeholders while ensuring adherence to applicable mining laws and regulations.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Supervise day-to-day mechanized open-cast limestone mining operations at Ranavav/Govlani Mines as per the directions of the Mine Agent and Senior Manager – Mining Operations.
- Discharge statutory responsibilities of Mine Manager in compliance with provisions of Mines Act, Metalliferous Mines Regulations (MMR), Mines Rules, DGMS circulars, MVTR and MCDR requirements applicable to mechanized open-cast metal mines.
- Ensure safe, efficient and economical production of sized limestone through manual and mechanized mining methods to meet production targets.
- Execute mining operations in line with the approved Mining Plan, Progressive Mine Closure Plan (PMCP) and annual production schedules.
- Plan and supervise drilling, blasting, excavation, loading, rock breaking, transportation and associated mining activities.
- Ensure compliance with Environmental Clearance (EC), Environmental Management Plan (EMP) and other statutory environmental requirements.
- Promote and strengthen safety awareness among employees, contractors and workmen through training, communication and regular safety initiatives.
- Ensure implementation of safe work practices and maintain high standards of occupational health and safety.
- Prepare, review and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), risk assessments and safety procedures related to mining activities.
- Monitor mining performance, productivity, equipment utilization and cost parameters to improve operational efficiency.
- Handle emergency situations effectively and ensure preparedness for mine-related contingencies.
- Coordinate with internal stakeholders including Production, Mechanical, Electrical, Safety, Environment and Logistics teams for smooth mining operations.
- Liaise with statutory authorities, regulatory agencies and external stakeholders for compliance and operational requirements.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Participate in short-term and long-term mine planning, pit development and optimization activities.
- Conduct operational studies and identify opportunities for productivity improvement, cost reduction and process optimization.
- Maintain statutory records, reports and documentation related to mining operations.
- Support implementation of digital tools, survey systems and mining software for better planning and monitoring.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives related to safety, environment, operational excellence and sustainability.
- Develop capabilities of employees and contractor workforce through training and on-the-job coaching.
- Build positive relationships with local communities and support community engagement initiatives.
- Adapt to changing mining conditions and align operational plans through quick and effective course corrections.
Educational Qualifications:
- B.E. / B.Tech. in Mining Engineering
Certification/s or Training/s:
- First Class Mines Manager’s Certificate of Competency (Restricted to Open Cast Metal Mines)
Preferred:
- Training in DGMS regulations, Mine Safety, Drilling & Blasting, Environmental Management and Mine Planning.
- Knowledge of mine survey and mine planning software.
Work Experience:
- Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in mechanized open-cast mining operations.
Preferred:
- 5 years or more experience in mechanized limestone mining, including drilling, blasting, excavation and mine planning activities.
The role operates in a mechanized open-cast limestone mine environment involving field supervision, mining equipment operations, drilling and blasting activities, contractor management and interaction with statutory authorities. The job requires extensive outdoor work, regular field inspections and strict adherence to safety, environmental and statutory standards.
Frequent travel within mining areas and occasional travel for regulatory interactions, technical studies, benchmarking and training programs.
General Shift with flexibility to work beyond normal hours during emergencies, critical operations, statutory inspections or production requirements.
Others:
