Job summary

Welspun World is seeking a senior procurement lead to manage domestic procurement of HR Coils, Plates, API Coils and API Plates from approved Indian mills. You will drive strategic sourcing, supplier relations, techno-commercial negotiations, and SAP MM operations to optimize cost, quality and delivery.

You will coordinate with Quality, Production and Planning teams to ensure material approvals, compliance with API/ISO standards, and on-time availability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s/engineering degree in a relevant field with additional MBA preferred.
• Strong knowledge of steel materials, API specs, and ISO 9001 quality systems.
• Experience in domestic steel procurement from Indian mills and SAP MM is essential.

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end procurement of HR Coils, Plates, API Coils and API Plates.
• Develop sourcing strategies to ensure uninterrupted supply at optimum cost.
• Negotiate prices, payment terms, and delivery schedules; drive cost savings.

Job description

To lead domestic procurement of Hot Rolled (HR) Coils, Steel Plates, API Grade Coils, and API Grade Plates from approved Indian steel mills. Responsible for strategic sourcing, supplier relationship management, techno-commercial negotiations, inventory planning, SAP-based procurement operations, cost optimization, and ensuring compliance with API, ISO, and customer quality requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Procurement & Sourcing

• Manage procurement of:
• HR Coils
• HR Plates
• API Grade Coils
• API Grade Plates
• Source materials from approved domestic mills
• Develop sourcing strategies to ensure uninterrupted supply at optimum cost.
• Conduct supplier evaluation, vendor development, and performance reviews.
• Monitor market intelligence, steel price trends, and mill production schedules.

Technical Procurement

Strong Working Knowledge Of:

• ASTM and customer-specific specifications.

Responsibilities:

• Evaluation of technical specifications and customer requirements.
• Review and verification of Mill Test Certificates (MTCs).
• Understanding of chemical and mechanical properties.
• Assessment of weldability, toughness, and forming requirements.
• Coordination with Quality and Production teams for material approvals.

Commercial Management

• Conduct techno-commercial evaluations.
• Negotiate prices, payment terms, delivery schedules, and annual rate contracts.
• Drive procurement savings and cost-reduction initiatives.
• Manage procurement budgets and spending controls.
• Develop alternate approved sources to mitigate supply risks.

SAP & Systems

Hands-on Experience In:

• SAP MM Module
• Inventory Monitoring
• Procurement MIS & Reporting

Inventory & Supply Chain Coordination

• Ensure timely availability of HR and API grade materials.
• Coordinate closely with Production, Planning, QA, Stores, and Logistics teams.
• Optimize inventory levels while preventing stock-outs.
• Monitor demand forecasts and procurement plans.

Quality & Compliance

Thorough Knowledge Of:

• API 5L Specifications
• ISO 9001 Quality Management System
• Mill Quality Assurance Systems
• Material Traceability Requirements
• Ensure compliance with customer, statutory, and internal quality standards.
• Support supplier audits and quality improvement initiatives.

Educational Qualification

• B.E./B.Tech. in Mechanical, Metallurgical, Production, or Industrial Engineering.
• MBA / PG Diploma in Materials Management or Supply Chain Management preferred.

Experience

Mandatory

• 10-15 years of experience in domestic steel procurement.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in sourcing HR Coils, Plates, API Coils, and API Plates.
• Strong exposure to procurement from leading Indian steel mills.
• Sound understanding of API 5L and IS 2062 specifications.
• Hands-on experience with SAP MM.
