Job summary

M2P Fintech is seeking an Associate Director of Backend Engineering with a strong Node.js background to architect scalable systems, mentor teams, and align backend initiatives with business goals in a fast-paced fintech environment.

You will lead cross-functional collaboration with Product, Frontend, DevOps, and QA, drive backend roadmaps, ensure security and reliability, and uphold best practices in coding, testing, deployment, and observability across global platforms.

Qualifications

• BE/B.Tech in Computer Science or equivalent required.
• 15+ years in backend development with 5+ years in leadership.
• Expert Node.js, Express.js, JavaScript/TypeScript; strong backend architecture.
• Experience with RESTful APIs, GraphQL, microservices and event-driven design.

Responsibilities

About the Role

M2P Fintech is looking for a highly experienced and strategic Associate Director of Backend Engineering with a strong background in Node.js to lead our backend development efforts. This role requires a visionary leader who can architect scalable systems, mentor engineering teams, and align backend initiatives with business goals in a fast-paced environment.

As part of a cross functional team, you will be working in a fast-paced and agile work environment delivering quality and innovative solutions that have immediate business impact. You need to take the challenges and ownership that comes while developing a complex system. You should lead the team and also be a team player with a knack for visual design and utility.

What Will You Do in this Role

Technical Leadership:

• Define and drive the backend engineering roadmap with a focus on Node.js technologies.
• Lead architectural decisions for scalable, secure, and maintainable backend systems.
• Ensure adherence to best practices in coding, testing, deployment, and monitoring.

Team Management:

• Manage and mentor backend engineers and engineering managers.
• Foster a high-performance culture focused on innovation, accountability, and continuous learning.
• Conduct regular performance reviews and career development planning.

Project Execution:

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Product, Frontend, DevOps, and QA.
• Oversee project planning, resource allocation, and timely delivery of backend features.
• Ensure backend systems meet SLAs for performance, reliability, and scalability.

Technology Stack Oversight:

• Champion the use of Node.js and related technologies (Express.js, NestJS, etc.).
• Guide decisions on databases (MongoDB, PostgreSQL, Redis), caching, and cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, Azure).
• Promote the use of modern DevOps practices including CI/CD, containerization, and observability.

What You’ll Need to be Successful in this Role

• B.E or B.Tech in Computer Science or equivalent advanced technical qualification.
• 15+ years of experience in backend development, with 5+ years in leadership roles.
• Expert-level proficiency in Node.js, Express.js, JavaScript/TypeScript and backend architecture.
• Strong experience with RESTful APIs, GraphQL, microservices, and event-driven architecture.
• Deep understanding of cloud platforms, container orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes), and CI/CD pipelines.
• Proven track record managing and scaling engineering teams, with excellent leadership and mentoring skills.
• Comprehensive understanding of event-driven architecture, distributed systems, and enterprise-grade integrations.
• Exceptional analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving abilities with meticulous attention to detail.
• Outstanding communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills.
• Highly proactive, results-driven, with a demonstrated ability to thrive and deliver in dynamic, deadline-oriented environments.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in high-scale systems (e.g., e-commerce, SaaS, fintech).
• Familiarity with serverless architectures and edge computing.
• Contributions to open-source Node.js projects or technical blogs.
