Job summary

BDO India is seeking an Associate Director - HR Compliance to lead statutory and labor compliance across Mumbai locations. You will govern regulatory obligations, coordinate with consultants and authorities, and provide leadership with visibility on compliance performance and improvement opportunities.

The role requires 10–15 years of HR compliance experience, deep knowledge of Indian labor laws, and strong collaboration with Legal, HR, Admin, Payroll, and Finance teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in human resources, Labour Laws, Law, Business Administration, or related discipline.
  • Postgraduate qualification in HR, Labour Laws, or Industrial Relations preferred.
  • 8 to 12+ years of experience in HR Compliance, Labour Compliance, Statutory Compliance, or related areas.
  • Strong understanding of Indian labor laws and multi-state compliance requirements.
  • Experience working with labor authorities, consultants, auditors, and legal teams.

Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end HR and labor compliance management across all offices and locations.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable Central and State labor laws, regulatory requirements, licenses, registrations, and statutory obligations.
  • Liaise via appointed consultant to ensure closure with labor authorities, government agencies and regulatory bodies for inspections, audits, notices and compliance submissions.
  • Coordinate with external compliance consultants and legal advisors to ensure timely and accurate compliance execution.
  • Partner closely with Legal, HR, Admin, Payroll, Finance, and other internal stakeholders on compliance matters.
  • Monitor regulatory changes and drive implementation of required actions across the organization.
  • Lead compliance audits, identify gaps, assess risks, and ensure timely closure of observations.
  • Develop and maintain compliance dashboards, trackers, and governance mechanisms.
  • Manage compliance vendors, monitor service delivery, and track SLA/KPI performance.
  • Provide periodic updates to leadership on compliance status, risks, non-compliances, audit findings, vendor performance, and corrective actions.
  • Drive process improvements, standardization, and automation initiatives within the compliance function.

Role Summary:

The HR Compliance Lead will be responsible for driving and governing statutory, labor and HR compliance across all organizational locations. The role will serve as the central point of contact for compliance-related matters, ensuring adherence to applicable laws, managing regulatory risks, coordinating with external consultants, authorities and providing leadership with visibility on compliance performance, gaps, and improvement opportunities.
