JOB PURPOSE
The Technology Enhanced Learning and Teaching Systems Developer is a key role accountable for enhancing the University's learning technology systems. This includes ensuring their effective operation, optimising workflows, and driving innovation in educational technology to foster inclusive, accessible environments that empower both staff and students to achieve their learning and teaching goals.
The postholder will ensure the seamless operation and continuous improvement of learning technology systems by testing Blackboard SaaS updates, translating enhancements for relevant teams, and diagnosing complex system issues. They will act as the primary point of contact for Blackboard support cases, manage user roles and privileges, and facilitate third-party integrations.
Beyond system administration, the role contributes strategically to the University's Digital Education Strategy, supporting staff through training on new Blackboard versions. By leveraging emerging technologies and sector advancements, they will ensure that learning environments remain innovative, effective, and accessible.
Additionally, the postholder will:
- Utilise learning analytics and data insights to assess system performance, engagement metrics, and usage trends, informing evidence-based improvements.
- Champion accessibility and inclusivity , ensuring compliance with standards such as WCAG and promoting equitable digital learning experiences.
- Collaborate with stakeholders , including academic departments, IT teams, and external vendors, to align system enhancements with institutional goals.
- Enhance process automation and efficiency by identifying opportunities to streamline workflows, reduce administrative burdens, and improve system usability.
- Support cybersecurity and compliance , ensuring adherence to data protection policies and sector-wide regulations governing educational technology.

Specific Responsibilities
- Evaluate and implement Blackboard SaaS updates , assessing system enhancements, conducting rigorous testing, and translating key changes into actionable insights for relevant teams.
- Plan, coordinate, and deliver comprehensive training on upgraded Blackboard versions, ensuring staff are equipped with the necessary knowledge to maximise system capabilities.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for Blackboard support cases, providing timely resolution of complex technical issues and ensuring optimal system performance.
- Diagnose and resolve intricate Blackboard system problems , leveraging analytics and technical expertise to improve user experience and system reliability.
- Manage and refine user roles and privileges , ensuring secure, efficient access control while maintaining compliance with institutional and sector-wide standards.
- Test, integrate, and optimise third-party tools , evaluating their compatibility with learning technology systems and ensuring seamless interoperability within the University's Digital Education Strategy.

DESIRED PROFILE
Qualification
- Minimum of 5 GCSEs to including English at A-C level.
- A Degree (any subject) with a 2.2 or above
- Digital learning background
- A degree (any subject) of 2.1 or above
- ALT, JISC, Blackboard or related user group activity
Experience
- Technology-Enhanced Learning Systems: Proven experience in managing and optimising learning management systems (LMS) and virtual learning environments (VLE), such as Blackboard, Moodle, or Totara.
- System Administration & Troubleshooting: Strong background in diagnosing and resolving complex technical issues related to learning technology platforms.
- Training & User Support: Experience in planning, coordinating, and delivering training sessions for staff on upgraded systems, ensuring effective adoption.
- Third-Party Integrations: Hands-on experience in testing, implementing, and maintaining integrations with external tools and platforms.
- Learning Analytics & Data Insights: Ability to analyse system usage, engagement metrics, and performance data to inform improvements.
- Accessibility & Inclusivity: Experience in ensuring compliance with accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG) and promoting inclusive digital learning environments.
- Process Automation & Efficiency: Demonstrated ability to streamline workflows and automate administrative tasks to enhance system usability.
