Job summary

Sankar NP Japan Private Limited is seeking an Assistant Manager Purchase to own sourcing, vendor performance, and cost for production materials. You will drive RFQs, supplier development, and PPAP readiness while coordinating with Production, PPC, and Quality to keep supply aligned with capacity expansion.

The role requires hands-on SAP MM experience, strong negotiation skills, and a data-driven approach to MIS and cost reduction in a manufacturing setting, ideally automotive.

Qualifications

• Direct production material procurement experience in manufacturing, preferably automotive.
• Hands-on SAP MM covering PR/PO, source determination, vendor master, GRN, reports.
• Strong negotiation with focus on landed cost and payment terms.
• Knowledge of IATF 16949 supplier management and PPAP material requirements.

Responsibilities

• Own procurement of direct production materials, packing material, and bought-out items.
• Float RFQs, compare quotations on landed cost, negotiate pricing and terms.
• Develop and qualify suppliers; maintain at least two sources for critical items.
• Track supplier performance, drive corrective actions for defects/delays.
• Convert MRPs into POs in SAP MM and track open orders to prevent stoppages.
• Manage the full SAP MM purchase cycle and coordinate with Stores and Accounts.

Job description

SNPJ is a Tier-1 OEM supplier of precision components to the 2W/3W automotive industry. We are hiring an Assistant Manager Purchase to own sourcing, vendor performance, and cost for our production materials, so that supply keeps pace with our capacity expansion.

Key Responsibilities:

• Own procurement of direct production materials, packing material, and bought-out items
• Manage tooling, consumables, and spares purchase in coordination with Production, Tool Room, and Maintenance
• Float RFQs, compare quotations on landed cost (not unit price alone), negotiate pricing and payment terms, and close POs on time
• Develop and qualify new suppliers; maintain an approved vendor list with a minimum of two sources for critical materials
• Evaluate supplier performance on quality, delivery, and price; drive corrective action for repeat delivery or quality failures
• Work with PPC to convert MRP-generated requirements into purchase requisitions and POs in SAP, and track open orders to prevent line stoppages
• Manage the full purchase cycle in SAP MM: vendor master, info records, source lists, PR to PO release, goods receipt, and invoice verification coordination with Stores and Accounts
• Work with Quality on supplier audits, incoming rejection analysis, and material test certificate compliance
• Track raw material price movements and manage price-variation clauses and cost-reduction targets
• Support new product development by sourcing materials and tooling for trials, samples, and PPAP
• Handle import sourcing and basic customs/logistics coordination where required
• Prepare monthly MIS from SAP and Excel covering spend, savings, OTIF, supplier ratings, and open PO status
• Guide and review the work of Purchase Executives and ensure documentation meets IATF 16949 requirements

Required Skills:

• Direct material procurement in a manufacturing environment, preferably in automotive component manufacturing
• Hands-on SAP MM experience (PR, PO, source determination, vendor master, GRN, and purchase reports)
• Commercial negotiation, quotation analysis, and total landed cost evaluation
• Supplier development and supplier performance management
• Understanding of IATF 16949 supplier management, PPAP material requirements, and material test certificates
• Strong Excel skills for spend analysis, price benchmarking, and MIS
• Knowledge of GST, payment terms, and vendor reconciliation basics
• Ability to read engineering drawings and material specifications

Preferred:

• Experience in sheet metal stamping or precision component manufacturing
• Import purchase exposure (LC, incoterms, customs clearance)
• SAP MM and PP integration exposure (MRP run to PR conversion)

Education:

B.E./B.Tech (Mechanical/Production/Industrial); MBA in Materials or Supply Chain preferred

Experience:

610 years in purchase/procurement, preferably in automotive component manufacturing, with at least 2 years in a team-lead or senior role

• Data-driven approach to negotiation and vendor decisions, with strong documentation discipline
