Job summary

APL Apollo Tubes in Tamil Nadu invites applications for a Safety Officer at its ERW steel pipe manufacturing plant. The role focuses on preventing workplace accidents and ensuring compliance with safety regulations to protect workers, machinery, and the plant environment.

You will lead daily inspections, enforce PPE usage, manage PTW and LOTO processes, perform risk assessments, conduct toolbox talks, and drive incident investigations and emergency preparedness.

Responsibilities

• Daily safety inspections of tube mill, welding section, slitting line, cutting machines, rolling mills, cranes and storage areas.
• PPE compliance: ensure workers use safety helmets, safety shoes, gloves, goggles, earplugs, welding face shields, and other PPE.
• Permit to Work (PTW): verify permits for hot work, work at height, confined-space entry, and other hazardous activities where applicable.
• Lockout/Tagout (LOTO): ensure electrical and mechanical energy sources are isolated before maintenance or machine cleaning.
• Risk assessment: identify hazards and implement Job Safety Analysis (JSA) and risk-control measures.
• Toolbox talks: conduct daily safety briefings and communicate hazards to operators, fitters, electricians, welders, and helpers.
• Incident investigation: investigate near misses, injuries, unsafe acts, and equipment damage; implement corrective actions.
• Emergency preparedness: maintain fire extinguishers, emergency exits, first-aid facilities, evacuation plans, and emergency response arrangements.
• Training and documentation: maintain inspection checklists, incident reports, training records, PTW records, and statutory safety documents.
