Role & responsibilities
Suprajit Engineering Limited is hiring an Assistant Manager / Deputy Manager Purchase to head the Purchase function at its Bengaluru plant. You will own end-to-end procurement of raw materials, bought-out components, tooling, capital items, consumables and services. You will ensure uninterrupted supply, competitive cost and strong supplier performance, and build a capable purchase team.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop the purchase strategy, annual purchase plan and category plans aligned with production plans, MRP and customer schedules.
- Own end-to-end procurement of raw materials and bought-out components (steel, zinc, aluminium, copper, wire, springs, plastics, rubber, castings, packing material, etc.), from RFQ to PO release, delivery and payment closure.
- Lead quotation evaluation, should-costing and negotiation of price, payment terms and lead times. Achieve savings and PPV targets through VA/VE, localisation, standardisation and vendor consolidation.
- Identify, evaluate and approve new suppliers. Develop alternate and dual sources and reduce single-source dependency.
- Coordinate with Engineering, Quality, Tool Room and Customer Quality for new part development, PPAP, sample approvals and engineering changes.
- Monitor supplier delivery and manage raw material and bought-out inventory with PPC and Stores. Resolve shortages and control excess and non-moving stock.
- Oversee procurement of machinery, tools, fixtures, gauges, spares, consumables and services within approved budgets.
- Track supplier QCDS performance, maintain ratings, drive 8D / corrective actions and conduct supplier audits.
- Ensure compliance with IATF 16949 / ISO, company policies, statutory norms (GST, import / customs, MSME payment norms) and ethical purchase practices. Manage contracts, agreements and NDAs.
- Coordinate with suppliers, freight forwarders, CHAs, logistics and Finance for imports, invoice verification, payments and reconciliation.
- Maintain PR/PO, GRN and supplier data in ERP. Present periodic MIS on purchase cost, PPV, savings, supplier OTD, rejection PPM, open POs, inventory and spend analysis.
- Lead, coach and develop the purchase team, and work closely with Production, PPC, Quality, Stores, Maintenance, Projects and Finance.
Desired Candidate Profile
- B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical / Industrial / Production Engineering (or related discipline). MBA in Supply Chain / Materials / Operations is an added advantage.
- 8–12 years of experience in purchase / supply chain, preferably in the automotive / auto-component manufacturing industry, with at least 3–4 years in a team-handling role.
- Proven experience in procurement of direct materials, bought-out parts, tooling and indirect items.
- Strong skills in negotiation, cost analysis, should-costing and contract management.
- Hands-on experience in supplier sourcing, development, evaluation and performance management.
- Understanding of engineering drawings, material specifications, PPAP and quality requirements.
- Experience in new part development, localisation, VA/VE and cost reduction.
- Knowledge of IATF 16949 / ISO, GST, import / export procedures, customs and Incoterms.
- Working knowledge of ERP (SAP or equivalent), inventory management and MRP.
- Strong analytical, leadership, communication and team management skills.
- Proficient in MS Office, especially Excel.
