Job summary

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in logistics or related field.
  • Minimum 4+ years of logistics and supply chain experience.

Assistant Manager – Logistics

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly organized, proactive, and experienced Assistant Manager – Logistics to oversee and manage end-to-end international logistics operations with a primary focus on sea/ocean freight movements. The ideal candidate should possess strong expertise in import/export operations, shipping documentation, customs clearance procedures, and coordination with CHAs, freight forwarders, shipping lines, and transporters. The role requires excellent operational coordination, problem-solving abilities, and a sound understanding of global trade practices, Incoterms, and international logistics compliance. Candidates with experience in metal trading, commodities, or international trading companies will be preferred. We are specifically looking for candidates with strong hands‑on experience in ocean freight operations and international shipment handling, with a minimum of 4+ years of relevant experience.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage end-to-end logistics operations for import and export shipments across international markets.
  • Coordinate with shipping lines, freight forwarders, transporters, warehouses, and CHAs to ensure smooth and timely cargo movement.
  • Handle sea/ocean freight bookings, vessel planning, shipment scheduling, and container movement activities.
  • Ensure timely customs clearance of shipments and proactively resolve operational or documentation-related issues.
  • Monitor shipment status from origin to destination and provide regular updates to internal stakeholders and management.
  • Verify and process shipping and trade documents including Bill of Lading (BL), Commercial Invoice, Packing List, Certificate of Origin (COO), Insurance documents, and other regulatory paperwork.
  • Ensure compliance with international trade regulations, customs laws, and company policies.
  • Coordinate closely with suppliers, customers, warehouses, and internal departments for timely dispatches and deliveries.
  • Negotiate freight rates, shipping contracts, and logistics costs with freight forwarders and service providers to optimize operational expenses.
  • Maintain accurate records of shipments, freight costs, invoices, and logistics documentation for audit and tracking purposes.
  • Handle shipment discrepancies, delays, damages, or claims in coordination with concerned parties.
  • Track freight market trends and suggest cost-effective logistics solutions to improve operational efficiency.
  • Support management in logistics planning, reporting, and vendor performance evaluation.
Required Skills & Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Commerce, International Business, or a related field.
  • Minimum 4+ years of relevant experience in logistics and supply chain operations, preferably in metal trading, commodities, recycling, international trading, or freight forwarding industries.
  • Strong practical knowledge of Incoterms, international shipping procedures, and global trade documentation.
  • Hands‑on experience in sea/ocean freight operations and containerized cargo handling is mandatory.
  • Good understanding of customs clearance procedures, DGFT regulations, and import/export compliance requirements.
  • Experience in coordinating with CHAs, freight forwarders, shipping lines, and transport vendors.
  • Strong negotiation skills for freight pricing and vendor management.
  • Excellent communication, coordination, and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple shipments simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, ERP systems, and logistics tracking tools will be an added advantage.
Preferred Candidate Profile
  • Experience handling international shipments for metals, scrap, commodities, or raw materials.
  • Candidates currently working in ocean freight, shipping, freight forwarding, or international logistics companies will be preferred.
  • Strong vendor network within the logistics and freight forwarding industry.
  • Ability to independently manage shipment operations with minimal supervision.
  • Detail-oriented with strong documentation and coordination skills.
